Otto's Story: Otto was found abandoned and unclaimed within a NW council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Otto is now neutered, chipped, and is fully vaccinated. Otto came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Otto's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Otto arrived today. He is small 16.5 Kilogms. Very openly friendly and settling beside his kennel neighbours. Once he is neutered and his skin is reviewed this little boy should fly out

So Otto is just lovely love4.gif
Sometimes a dog just gets to you and after spending a very small amount of time with them you get what they need and what they’re about, I think both Anne and I instantly felt this darling boys desire to be loved love4.gif honestly he will melt your heart.
In his kennel Otto just wanted to get going, he’s super wriggly but very sweet so when Anne was putting his harness on he was moving around all over the place, but harness on and off we set thumbs.gif oh my goodness Otto very much enjoys being out and about, at first we tried an on lead photo shoot, no, no that’s not for Otto, so we headed to the paddock and then we discovered what Otto is all about woo.gif]
Otto is a boy of 2 sides, as soon as we entered the paddock he did the most amazing zoomies, there was no stopping him, crazy, happy, joyful running like a loon, pure joy on his face woo.gif] then there’s his loving side love4.gif after those crazy zoomies he instantly jumped onto Anne’s lap for cuddles, he buried his head, supremely content to be with someone kind, I think if he could of he would have stayed there all day. I also enjoyed some cuddles and this boy he has absolutely stolen my heart love4.gif Otto is a sweet, gentle and fun boy, fingers crossed his amazing forever home is just around the corner thumbs.gif

Otto is such a little sweetie. He is very keen to get out and about and is lively on the lead, but it is a youthful, joyful energy. He barks at other dogs, which I think is nerves, so I think careful, calm introductions would be needed. I think he would benefit from gentle introductions to social walks with the other dogs.

I have enjoyed my walks with Otto this week, each time getting to know him a little better. He is young and inexperienced and needs careful exposure to new things and situations. He carries nerves and looks to his walker for reassurance.
On Wednesday I tried him on a social walk. We chose Mollykins (walking with Jude and Emma) because she is calm and quiet. Otto and I followed behind Molly, and Otto announced his anxiety by barking. Molly, bless her, took no notice of his noise and Otto began to settle. In fact I think he took some confidence from watching and following Molly. Otto needs lots of social walks with calm dogs to build his confidence and help him relax around other dogs. He is easy to manage, and just needs lots of reassurance.
Today Otto and I set off on our own. We passed 2 joggers, one person walking and a bike. Otto barked at them all. This is just nerves and how he deals with new experience's. Again this was very easy to manage and it won't take long for Otto to take these things in his stride. Other than that he was a delight, enjoying lots of sniffs on his walk. When we got back, he saw Sarah, one of our dog walkers. Initially he barked at her but then was happy to go right up and take a treat. He is a really friendly little boy and loves people.

Otto came to stay with us for a few days for a dose of animal therapy and he really is a sweet boy.

The first thing you notice about Otto is he can be very loud. As others have said this seems to be a nervous reaction to anything new or unexpected and once he gets used to it he quietens down, or in the case of walking if you move him along he quickly finds something else of interest. The first night he was very bothered by our bearded dragon and barked a lot, but by the third night, although he was watching him intently he didn’t bark so patience and working with him is key.

He is a very affectionate boy, loves a cuddle, and will jump right up next to you, or on you and will happily stay there for ages. If he gets over excited he can mount a bit so best so keep energy low if possible. We have older girls who are 12 and 14 and he was brilliant with them.

Otto loves to play, out in the garden he would endlessly fetch the ball, find sticks or anything else he can chew and then bring it to you to throw again.
He walks well on the lead, can get excited by other dogs or walkers but gentle encouragement and praise when he didn’t bark or react seemed to make a difference and he grew in confidence over the few days he was with us.

Otto is a fantastic, sweet boy who with the right home will absolutely flourish. 🥰

Met Otto for the first time today. He was so friendly, has a great personality and was easy to get his harness on for a walk. He was very alert on the walk and had a good bark at some passing horses and other dogs. I think this was a bit of nervous energy and he walked along when I moved us on. With a bit of love and exposure to different experiences should help build his confidence.

He was responsive to his name and came to me when called for a stroke. He had a good sniff and walked well on the lead. We went into the paddock after for him to have a play and he gave me a kiss. He is such a sweet boy and I reckon would be happy to snuggle on the sofa with his future owner.

I met Otto today, he is such a sweet and friendly dog, he does bark when he encounters new things- people, cats, dogs etc but again this feels like a nervous reaction. He is very sweet, attentive and just needs to right kind, calm home to grow into a beautiful happy dog.
He’s very lovely and I will happily walk him again but so hope he finds a home soon.

I walked Otto today for the first time. He is a really sweet affectionate boy. He was no trouble to get in and out of his kennel. He is a little bit barky when he sees other dogs but I agree it’s just nerves. He seemed so happy to be out and his tail did not stop wagging 😊 I look forward to walking him again whilst he finds his forever home 🥰
