Woody's Story: Woody came to us due to Welfare issues. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Woody is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Woody was came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Woody's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: Emailed 18th Nov 23: Hi Lynne This lad has a virus at the moment, snotty nose and temperature (hence the coat) - lots better as had this a few days ago. He is about 10-12 months - underweight but should be about 40kg play. Not an XL he is a Mastiff type. Everyone loves him. Woody is ignoring them in other kennels. He is quite tall but this does not look like that in photos. He is loveleeeeeey. Love treats and a cuddle. Vx

Re: Woody Mastiff x Staffie DofB Dec 22 RRemedies Centre
I met woody today.
WOW what a lovely boy. He was so and calm in his kennel and let me fit a harness and collar with no issue at all.
Harnessed up and ready to go, we pottered round the grounds where I took him to meet other volunteers. He greeted everyone with a waggy tail and enjoyed the fuss. After this we went down the drive for a little bit more of a walk. He was great with traffic and walks on a slack lead. What a dreamboat!

Met Woody for the first time today. What a lovely boy he is! So calm on the lead. Loves a fuss and can sit and give his paw for a treat.

I knew as soon as I saw Woody that he was going to be my kind of boy he is a stunner, with the most gorgeous chocolate brown coat and oh those eyes, he is beautiful
Woody was lovely in his kennel, he seemed very happy to see me, had a good sniff and then was harnessed pretty quickly with the help of Anne and some squeezy cheese Woody does seem a little overwhelmed at the moment and he was rather reluctant to leave his kennel, but again with the help of some squeezy cheese he decided to join us for a walk, so off we set.
Once we got going Woody seemed to really enjoy his time out, he also seems to very much appreciate a nice calm, chilled out approach, supremely happy just taking his time to properly investigate his surroundings, looking up every now and again to check that he was being a good boy and if course he was
We stopped off for a little photo shoot and Woody was a star, posing like a pro, he was very keen to relax for a while and then get on with the important job of getting to know his surroundings
Woody is a stunning boy, he will absolutely find his confidence here at RR and I’m excited to see his journey through and into his perfect forever home

I walked Woody the other day. What a gorgeous boy. Quite bouncy in the kennel, but affectionate and we had a good game getting his harness on.
He relaxed as soon as we were away from the kennels and he seemed eager to meet other dogs. He needed a little coaxing to go for a proper walk, but we managed that. Woody is much happier on hard surfaces, he did NOT do mud or puddles(for me)!!! Woody will make a great companion for some lucky family.

Woody woodpecker. He’s such a poppet!! I was lucky to be the 1st person to walk Woody and have walked him a few times since, I’m hooked already!
He is so gentle and kind. He’s a big puppy with a whole lot of love. He likes playing with toys and a cuddle. He looks a bit like a big chocolate lab with a handsome more Bully like head.
Woody is fab on the lead and is not at all bothered by traffic, dogs, people. He is a little hesitant about life in kennels and needs some reassurance but will happily follow another dog on walks. He also looks to his walker for reassurance.
Woody does make me laugh, there is one thing Woody HATES….. MUD!! He will teeter round the edge of anything too sloppy and simply will refuse to continue if the terrain is too rough . Something tells me Woody may have previously been a town mouse. I’m sure in time he’ll come round to our country ways.
I’m looking forward to getting to know Woody more. I’m sure he won’t be here for long so for now I’ll make the most of my time with him!

Woody woodster. The dog that has stolen lots of our hearts.
Woody is the sweetest dog who has shown nothing but love for everyone and all the dogs he has met. He has an extremely calm manner about him and nothing seems to phase him. He plods along so lovely on his lead taking it all in ( dodging the mud though as he’s not a big fan ) and all the dogs that he has come into contact with he has been amazing. Even though he is quite a big dog he is really easy to handle. He is the most beautiful chocolate brown colour with a squishy staffi face. This dog would make an amazing family pet.

I had the privilege of walking this very easygoing young man today. We had a nice walk through the village with Emma and Patch leading the way, making sure we avoided any particularly muddy areas to suit Lord Woody’s tastes, bless him. Aversion to the mud aside, Woody is an absolute delight to walk, curious in all the interesting smells but extremely well-suited to a loose-lead walk, just trotting along with Patch up ahead.
When we stopped for the odd treat or to let others pass, Woody would sit and look up with the most pensive and emotive eyes - it felt like he was really looking at me with curiosity (and not just for the cheese!). He’s such a handsome boy with a really gentle and inquisitive nature, and he even managed to walk across a bit of mud on the way back!
It was the first time I walked young Woodster and he will definitely be a go-to on a day he’s available. An absolute dream to walk with the sweet personality to match.

Re: Woody Mastiff x Staffie DofB 08.11.22 Weybridge Temp Foster
Woody's foster break:
Woody was suggested as a foster to give him a bit of a break from the kennels and how lucky I was to have him for a few days.
After easily getting him out I took him for a little walk down the lane to get to know him and him me, he walks so easily just sniffing his way along and clearly happy to be out and about.
Once in the car he soon settled and we headed to the local pet shop to pick up some essentials. Even in the shop with lots of people, smells and distractions he was responsive to his name, didn’t pull on the lead and just gave a gentle nod to people’s hands when they introduced themselves. Once he had chosen his blue dinosaur we got back in the car and headed home for the weekend.
When we got in I let him have a good sniff around and get settled, this didn’t take long and he had soon found his spot next to my feet on the sofa. Being a holiday for him I wanted to have him relax as much as possible so had him up next to me on the sofa where he soon dozed off curled up.
Out first walk was about 4km along the high street and canal tow path, getting caught in the rain along the way. He still plodded along beautifully, not the biggest fan of mud but he doesn’t mind strolling through a puddle we got back and towelled off before dinner.
For the night he slept perfectly on the dog bed in the bedroom. I think I stirred more than he did and in the morning I let him up onto the bed for some belly rubs and big stretches before heading out for toilet and walk.
No accidents in the house the whole stay and he likes to do his business on soft ground it seems!
On the walk we did 6.5km along the canal and around a local lake, passing lots of people, dogs, cyclists joggers ducks and swans. With people he wants to say hello, but is very gentle about it. With dogs he perks up slightly, and watches them to see what’s going on and if they come close, he waits for them and has a gentle sniff. You can see he wants to say hello and to play. At no time did I see a negative reaction. Cyclists and joggers can sometimes catch a dog off guard but not woody!
Every person that met him had nothing but good things to say about how good he looks and his temperament; he really is a softy.
In a big open field, I started running and his zoomies kicked in, bounding and bouncing along showing his athleticism which I hadn’t seen yet. You can tell he’s strong by looking at his shape but doesn’t show it unless promoted with runs or toys that will raise his excitement. For his age he’s extremely calm and mature.
He’s clearly had some training, constantly turning his head to see where you are, responds to his name, will sit and wait when crossing the road (treats help) with more consistency he will be absolutely brilliant! He’s pretty close already!
Another night and he slept straight through, not needing the toilet until the morning when we got up. He doesn’t guzzle his food down; left some spare for later.
He barely made a noise in our time together. No barking at the footsteps from the flat above, no chewing up of parcels delivered through the letter box, genuinely a joy to be around.
Woody is an amazing dog that deserves a good home. He’s been so easy and pleasant to be around and brought smiles to not just my face but the people that met him over the few days together. It was tough taking him back and there’s a Woody shaped hole missing when I got back!
