Yushi Japanese Akita DofB Nov 22 Camden Foster
Yushi Japanese Akita DofB Nov 22 Camden Foster
Current Status: Available
Yushi's Story: Yushi is a Japanese Akita who was inbred with brother and sister mating. He is small. He received bad beatings: Yushi's breeder/ owner is being prosecuted. The result is Yushi flinches on touch which is partly due to his experiences but also he had lost sight in one eye and possibly losing sight in the other. His hips have been X-rayed and there doesn't seem lasting damage. He is very sweet and gentle. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Yushi will be neutered when old enough by receiving family as contract with Rescue, he is chipped, and fully vaccinated. Yushi came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Yushi's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: We were asked to give Yushi a chance and find a special receiving family

Met this little sweetheart as he passed briefly through the RR kennels awaiting his foster pawrents arriving to collect. He is, quite simply, a little heart stealer.

Re: Yushi Japanese Akita DofB Nov 22 Camden Foster
First weekend with Yushi has been amazing. He is such a sweetheart. The fact that he is bigger than Freddie and Mae has meant our arrangements for him have had to be rethought but Yushi is very easy going. The noisy bustle of Holloway seems to leave him unmoved and he has been pleased to say hello to calm, dog-confident people.
My one concern has been how little Yushi wants to eat but that may be his only visible sign of stress. He has bonded very quickly - he is, after all, still very young - and seems very biddable. Yushi walks nicely on the lead and doesn't pull. There is no obvious sign of sightloss but he does nose my hand from time to time to make contact.
On our third walk I tripped on a raised paving slab but, fortunately, didn't actually fall. As I pitched forward I expected Yushi to be frightened but he seemed merely slightly surprised. He gave a little play-bow dance to reassure himself - or me? - and when I was fully upright and smiling he reached up and put his paws on my chest. After briefly touching noses we continued as if nothing had happened ...

Re: Yushi Japanese Akita DofB Nov 22 Camden Foster
Yushi is settling very well with the resident dogs, Mae and Freddie, at Peters and are they are now mixed. Peter has not witnessed any visual or hearing problems. Yushi needs a companion home as he can 'howl' when left and is a early riser so Peter is making coffee at 5.30 every morning after a visit to the garden with Yushi who is very well housetrained.
Yushi seems to have had good training and is a delight. He is great around London traffic and loves meeting people and happy to meet dogs too. A little shy of Tweenagers but could be overcome as he is so amiable.
Peter has been getting Yushi's his old undercoat out and his is much more comfortable.
