Captain's Story: Captain was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Sussex council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Captain is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Captain came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Captain's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: 16.8.23 We were called by Captain's dog warden he has nowhere to go. We agreed to take him in asap. He has been waiting 6 weeks already.
Captain came into RescueRemedies on the 22nd August 23

I had the pleasure of walking and playing with this gorgeous boy yesterday. He was in the paddock so I followed Anna in and had a game of ball that captain really enjoyed. He flies through the air at times to catch the ball and brings it back to you!
Anna lead him out and then I took the leads. He quickly came in and nudged my hand.
We went for a walk up the lane and then back through the woodland and he walked nicely on the lead.
Captain is in need of a brush and has quite a few tufts sticking out of his coat which he was happy for us to pull out and was accepting of some strokes
He has a lovely vibe about him and
I am sure will be popular with the walkers once he is settled but I don't think he will be with us for long.

What a lovely boy captain is! Very gentle and happy to meet you in his kennel! Took no notice of the other dogs around him and we happy trotted over to the big paddock!
He loved chasing a ball and bringing it back! (Sometimes) does come over for a cuddle which was very sweet!
Got his harness on no problem and didn’t seem worried around getting it off either!
Had a nice long walk and he was very excited about seeing and smelling everything! Very obvious that where ever he has come from previously hadn’t taken him outside much! As it seemed everything was very new! Wasn’t a big puller! Nothing that someone couldn’t handle. Always turned back to check in with you and would come back to me for a little reassurance aswell.
All in all he was a lovely walk and can’t wait to take him out next time! 🩵

Captain is wowing everyone. He travelled yesterday on the backseat of the dog mobile for a 30 min journey to the vets. We felt jumping in to a crate would have been more of an ordeal for him. Captain was obviously out of his depth on the journey but quiet, head down and then trusting enough to watch.
Out of the van he was puzzled by traffic and there was a sense to react to it and hints of a chase rather like some collies. Captain defo. needs to be tightly controlled around traffic and ideally have aware exposure for him to learn to understand, and trust, and then no longer see the need to engage.
Wonderful in the vets though we did muzzle him. He weighed in at 30 kilos. Very easy to manage and did jump into the back seat with less effort once her had emerged from his neuter and vaccination.
Beginning to get interested applications for this boy he has tremendous potential and is soft and loving.
