Teds really is developing into one top little dog! He and I enjoyed two walks this week as his midweek walker was away. It struck me anew how loving and affectionate he is - you can almost see his desire to be befriended in his eyes when he rushes over to you in his pen ready to have his leads put on.

He has made tremendous progress with the help of his regular walkers. True he is a work in progress as Teds is still reactive to traffic and sometimes dogs and people- though the latter much less so these days. However, there is no edge to Teds - what you see is what you get - he can be barky especially as he leaves the rescue site and he can get a bit excited when he sees another dog but this is nothing which can't be managed. Teds does not have too many regular walkers - imagine the progress he would make were he to be taken out more often! He loves his cuddles and strokes midwalk and of course his treats.

His default speed and way of walking can be pulling and fast but Thursday he showed me what a kind, intuitive little fella he is. The mud seemed worse than ever so there were sections in the wood where I went very slowly and I appealed to Teds to slow down and wait for me and he did just that! He turned round and waited instead of wanting to go full steam ahead.

At the end of a long walking day I always finish up by his pen which is really a bit out of the way but he is waiting for me as he knows he will get my last bit of chicken and some encouraging words through his pen door. He is a dog who would thrive on routine, calm management, and lots of affection. He just loves the people he knows and wants the chance to spend more time with them. Dear little chap - and so handsome! Kiss of love.gif Kiss of love.gif Kiss of love.gif

I’ve been walking Teds for a while now on Fridays and Sundays. Completely agree with Tricia and Helen that he’s come such a long way since he arrived. He used to be so reactive and would be a struggle to walk him as he was so boisterous. Now I find he is a pleasure to walk, he rarely even pulls. Recently he has been walking with various other kennel dogs, like the older and streetwise Spencer, Stan and Lenny. He seems to relax and follow their lead.

Teds loves going to the paddock, and when I have time it is fun to throw the ball for him and watch him run! He brings it back and waits so patiently. He also gently puts his paws on my knees and the drops it gently into my lap, so that I can easily throw it again. So helpful.

I took Teds out for the first time on my own today, after a few intros from David. We went to the woodland paddock first. He chased after the tennis ball. He really enjoyed a few strokes and took some cheese so gently. On the walk he came to a halt a few times, I was expecting him to be a little anxious as I’m a new person but I gently called his name and he immediately followed suit. The mud was dire after torrential downpour a few days previously, he slowed down for me to wade through. Such a kind little chap. Kiss of love.gif

I’ve had a chance of a quick half an hour in the paddock with Teds of late. He REALLY loves chasing after a tennis ball but is not so focused on it that he doesn’t have time for cuddles. He especially loves a shoulder rub. When I’m sitting on the chair, after fetching the ball he runs back to me and hops his front paws onto my knees in the sweetest way. As it’s been quite warm I encourage him to have a pause, he either sits under the steps, has a roll in the dirt or just lays down quietly for a while. Looking forward to spending more time with him and walking him too.

Spent a bit of time with Teds lately. Today we went in the paddock first and then a short and very relaxed walk. In the paddock I sit on the chair, he drops the ball at my feet, I throw it with the plastic thingy-m-jig, he brings it back and hops front paws on my lap, drops the ball and stays for a little shoulder, neck of head rub. As the weeks have gone on the cuddles are lasting for longer.
He does need persuading to pause for a while as it’s pretty warm and so far he hasn’t stopped running for the ball of his own accord.
The walk afterwards was nice, he likes to lay or roll in the grass and sniff his way along.
