Magic is always ready for our early morning walk and rarely ever refers to his lead, just keen to walk to a midway point to the kennel gates to relieve himself and commence his walk. He likes to sniff and is acutely alert to squirrels with a slight lunge towards but self restraint in his awareness of his lead...so just displaying interest. On return he jumps into his bed and sometimes I forgot to give his cuddle and kiss and I get an intense thought come, and I turn and he stands there waiting to snuggle up and have his forehead and cheek kissed.

Magic was in reception watching everyone who arrives during a busy day. He was there as he has a happy tail and it breaks down with him wagging it against kennel walls.

Magic is now in the house and this involves greeting me first thing in the morning when I make my first coffee of the day, then out in the paddock to run around and sniff and explore. During the day he lounges on my bed and can watch over the grass paddocks to any activity at the kennels. Magic has a spell out in the garden during the day and then of an evening he enjoys paddock running again.

Magic has made a great deal of progress in self- controlling his fizz and excitment. As you know every morning he always walked to the gate to open up and then a short walk for sniffs and glimpses of squirrels dancing on branches above. He has learned to inhibit his lead grabs and now when a hand is offered he immediately reflects and gives the offered hand a lick. He loves his cuddles. Now with his new routine he is learning to calm his energy after bursts of running, and his excitement on greeting,

Magic and I are getting to know each other very well since he came into my house. He is well tuned into the routine now and enjoys his free running around the grass paddocks early in the morning and each evening. He also has access to a small side lawn of a lunchtime. Magic has a lot of maturation to catch up with. He is feeling his way and testing his boundaries and finding when he pushes them I am firm and loving. He is exploring the freeze and then dashing over making a lot of noise and catches my sleeve or touches my hand as a play gesture. We never to play tug of war which bullbreeds and Magic is defo a dog who searches for this in his prelude to play. He has softened his mouth considerably and though his roar would be frightening if you didn't trust him, he actually is very calibrated in his contact now so you get a touch of teeth . We have lots of cuddle exchange and he licks and rejoices in our cuddles especially when he jumps on my bed on return from the paddocks or when he comes over to me of an evening when I'm on the computer.

Magic isn't a foodie. Magic eats to live rather than lives to eat. He does a lovely sit though when asked for a treat. So lovely to see him running and especially when relating to another dog the other side of the fence and playing running along with them. He has a way to go and we have had moments when he is blatantly refusing to come in from the paddock with a hard stare and a twinkle in his eyes as he seizes the lead I have produced, to parade it around the paddock with glee... then he stops stares and says now what are you going to do. Eventually his curiosity gets the better of him, as I out wit him, and he comes seeking me in the house and by then he is ready to go in his room. Lovely to witness him exploring puppy milestones, be they belated. Magic is embracing his sense of self and compatibility as a adult whilst exploring his boundaries and pushing them with fun. Magic defo has a sense of humour.

I love Magic but haven't had the chance to walk him much recently. I have walked him again the last 2 weeks and have been met by a very chilled boy when entering his room. Living in the house seems to agree with him and our walks have been a delight.
On the way back he does roll on his back to delay going in but after a belly rub he gets back up and continues in with no problems. In the past this may have triggered some lead grabbing but he seems to be able to control the urge to do that now.

My mate Magic!

I've Been walking Magic for just shy of two month's now, after being introduced to him by one of our senior walkers Ros.
With each walk that passes, our bond together strengthens and I've really become fond of this cheeky chap - very much looking forward to our walks together.

There are two ocassiosns that I recall, which in my mind evidence, just how much of a clever and special boy my mate Magic really is.

# When walking along one of the woodland paths that surrounds the grounds of the rescue centre, Magic and I noticed another dog and walker heading directly towards us. Without a split seconds hesitation, Magic took it upon himself to redirect himself and I into a nearby hidden corner of woodland, waiting patiently for the other dog and walker to pass us, without the need for any prompting, directing or reassurance from myself.
A true sophisticated gentlemen, who's learnt not to instigate or entertain conflict from other dogs, opting to be the bigger person and take the literal path of least resistance.

# more recently, Magic and I were walking along a narrow and uneven stretch of road, which led to me loosing my footing and rolling one of my ankles ( ouch)
As soon as i exclaimed out in pain, Magic stopped in his tracks looking back at me with a deep stare of worry and concern painted all over his face.
Noticing the pain I was in, Magic began to pine and cry, demonstrating clear concern for his clumsy friend!
After a few mouthfuls of chicken and some reassuring cuddles, Magic and I continued on our walk together, albeit at a much slower and cautious pace.
I was touched by Magics reaction towards me after learning of the pain that i was in. A true sentiment to his loyal and caring nature.
Good boy Magic!
