Luna's Story: Sad background: Luna's breeder was an alcoholic, and she so fed sporadically, tough life for 2 and half years then passed on to a pub owner who had her for 6 months but didn't cope not knowing her breed mix/ traits. A family homed her through website on the understanding she had lived with and was good with cats...sadly not. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place. Luna is neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Luna was in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.
If interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and sadly due to unprecedented interest, we will only be able to contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Luna's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information: Background info: Her breeder was an alcoholic and often forgot to feed her, so she always eats and drinks very fast and immediately throws up - we've stopped this by using a slow feeder bowl and giving her an inch of water in her bowl at a time, filling it back up whenever it's empty throughout the day. She didn't get on with another dog so the breeder sold her to a lady at the pub - the owner we got her from. After 6 months decided she couldn't cope and putting her for sale on Pets4Homes, where we found her. Apparently she lived with 7 cats at the breeders house, but we now think this was untrue. We also think she may have seen some bad punishment in the past, sometimes if my husband moves too suddenly or accidentally looms over her she growls slightly or flinches, but she's never shown any aggression. She's a real lap dog in the house, loves sleeping fully covered by blankets, and doesn't mind being carried if necessary. she isn't possessive over her bed and in the house is mostly obedient. She does get stressed if left alone in a room and has eaten things she shouldn't, so she is now never left alone for longer than a minute without being crated. She likes her crate but prefers the sofa or our bed. She gets cold easily and doesn't mind having a jumper or coat put on. On walks she pulls badly and is too distracted to listen to any commands; she always wears a collar and a harness with a short lead attached to each, but if we go to a wide-open space we put her on a 10m non-extendable long line attached to her harness and a chain to attach the harness to the collar in case she slips one. We walk her for 45 minutes most nights, unless the weather is bad - she hates the rain and won't even go to the toilet in the garden if it's raining. She likes her toys , she has a loud growl when she plays but it's obvious she's playing. She can be mouthy when she plays but if it's too hard and you react she's immediately very apologetic and gentle. She's a really loving companion and will be an amazing pet in the right situation.

It was lovely to met this wee girl yesterday and she was keen to explore the new surroundings, perfect as the sun was out so off we went around the kennel grounds. Bless her, a little bit nervous as she starts to settle with us but I was so delighted when she put her paws on my lap as we sat on the bench
Anne was taking the photos above, methinks little Luna you are quite the model xxx

Luna greeted me like an old friend in her kennel today, she’s definitely relaxed from last Friday and was keen to come out and enjoy the afternoon sun
Luna strikes such a pose
Introduced her to other walker Charlie and she enjoyed hopping up next to her on the log, then did some more posing, proper terrier pose
Lovely girl and a lovely walk

I had the pleasure of walking this little pocket rocket yesterday. I little nervous on entering her space at first. She seemed to be reassured by sausages and fuss. Then off we went around the grounds and then to the paddock. I thought she may have fancied a little run around but no she just wanted cuddles. What a sweet little girl. At one point she decided that the best place to sit was wrapped around the back of my shoulder. A real lap dog and beauty.

Lovely Luna, got a lovely welcome in her kennel yesterday and she was so much more connected and relaxed on her walk aswell - we had a lovely mooch and ventured along the side of the road - she was aware when the odd car passed us and watched, but no further reaction - but o could tell she was pleased when it had passed by !
We came back through the woods and a lovely relaxed lead, super walk
Back at the kennels we stopped at the ‘cuddle log’ for a sit down, she jumped on my lap and enjoyed a stroke but then her busy by nature kicked in and off she popped and listened to all the noises around about !

Another lovely welcome in Luna’s kennel, so pleased to see me which was lovely
Quick harness change as the little madam had had a good old chew on her old one ! No problems at all changing it other than coping with her wiggly happy little body !!!
Off we went for walkies, Luna donned her muzzle and was very good putting it on, we waited until we were outside her kennel as she was keen to get going, treats in it in my hand and in went her head ! Clipped up and we were off
Such a polite little girl xxx

Had the pleasure of walking Luna again. No shyness this time and gave an enthusiastic welcome. We put her muzzle on after a circuit of the grounds and explored the woods. However one of the straps seemed to be moving over her eye so we returned to the grounds. We sat and had cuddles and watched other dogs from a distance. Once back in her kennel she surprised me with a sit and paw on request for a sausage. Such a sweet little girl with so much love to give.

Luna and I ventured off site for the first time today as she wore her muzzle when she is in the woods. Luna wears this because she is so dog reactive and this makes her feel safe and secure. She really is the most affectionate little girl - in the woods she kept coming back to me and jumping up for me to cuddle her. I am growing more and more attached to her and can see that she would make the most lovely little companion for someone who could manage her dog reactivity.

Re: Luna Patterdale Terrier DofB 23.10.17 Gatwick Kenns
Luna is always so pleased to see you when you set foot in her kennel or if she meets you outside. Her trust in humans is a joy to see. She thrives on affection. We walked off site today and although she is not keen on her muzzle will accept it without resistance. We spotted several squirrels, which although fascinated with there was no reaction from her. I was surprised as she is a terrier through and through but such a loving pocket rocket. Any family would be lucky to have her.
