Stan's Story: Stan came into his first Rescue following a relationship breakdown. He was living in a flat and rarely walked. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place. Stan is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Stan is in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and sadly due to unprecedented interest, we will only be able to contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Stan's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information: Hi Dianna, I hope you don’t mind me emailing, I was wondering if you would be able to help with a young Patterdale boy we have here with us.
Stan is a 2 ½ year old Patterdale that was signed over to us due to a relationship breakdown. He lived his whole life in a flat where he wasn’t walked or socialised with people or the outside world.
He has bonded fantastically with his main handler but fearful of new people and will not tolerate them handling him other than walks. Chris his main carer can do everything with him, he is muzzle trained for the vet as he is frightened of any kind of over-handling. He has never bitten whilst here but does give good warning and gently mouths your hand if uncomfortable.
Sadly we are struggling with Stan here now as he will not tolerate any new people interacting with him He is okay with dogs with careful introduction, his previous owner said he is house trained and good with cats. He is a really sweet boy once there is a relationship there but sadly we do not have the customer base to find Stan the right Terrier knowledgeable home.
I was wondering if you would be able to help with Stan as he desperately needs a Terrier guru , or if you know anyone who could help us at all. I’ve attached a couple of photos of Stan for reference.
Kind Regards A West Midlands Rescue

Re: Stan Patterdale DofB 03.03.18 RRemedies Centre
Stan and I shared our first walk together with Jack and Spencer, walked by Anne and Tricia. It was a really enjoyable walk - Stan had allowed Tricia to put on his new red harness and so he could walk off site. We did the circular walk to the village which takes about 40 minutes there and back. This is a little dog I didn't know but first impressions were great - he is not bothered by other dogs at all, traffic including heavy goods traffic also did not phase him. He kept that little nose close to the ground for most of the walk but did enjoy a few sniffs along the way. He walked at just the right pace with no pulling. Every so often he would look at me wanting some sausage and with that very appealing little face he was hard to resist. Stan clearly is very motivated by treats. I look forward to getting to know him better and to more walks with him.

Now I think you all know I love my Patterdale s so I was keen to meet little Stan - plus he was the spitting image of another Stanley Patterdale I fostered several years ago
Showed me how he puts his little paws on my knee for a treat and then took it so gently from my hand and then accepted a little head scratch
Here he is with Junior waiting patiently for Stan to finish sniffing, Junior was very very patient !!! Lovely little guy
Little Stan loves his walks - and he loved the company of Junior too, no reaction to cars, lorries, joggers either, what a little star

We walked with Stan today - he is one adorable dog, took treats so gently on a walk, passed other dogs with no problems, enjoyed sniffing around and running, accepted strokes and scratches on his head and body. He listened so well on the walk as well! I'm sure he will be in his new home in no time.

I met gorgeous Stan for the first time today. He’s soooo cute! He took cheese very gently from my hand and was very happy to leave his kennel. He was not bothered by the rain – he just enjoyed being out. He walked really well on the lead and never pulled. He’s such a sweetie!

Vincent took Stan for a walk for the first time on Saturday. Stan was so easy to walk from the time we took Stan out of the kennel block to when we returned an hour later. Stan is comfortable walking on grassy road sides, muddy paths and tarmacked roads. Stan reminded us of Spencer when he picked up a wooden stick from the muddy path and carried it around for several minutes. He looked so adorable with a stick in his mouth, he was getting a lot of smiles from passersby. Stan is such a cute, little, easy going dog, we hope he will find his forever home soon .

Stan was much more confident than last week. It took no time at all to get him out and about. He walked really well on the lead. He enjoyed the snow and was happy to have a bit of a run too. He’d be the perfect jogging companion!
