Bert's Story: Bert grew up in a family with adult children very involved with his training and care, and 2 other terriers. He has had fights with the other male both entire. Behaviourist advised he was rehomed. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place. Bert was neutered on entry, chipped, and is fully vaccinated. Bert was in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Bert's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information: We were asked to help Bert as he was challenging the older entire male in the pack. Got on really well most of the time and all the time with their terrier bitch

Just look at Bert's face - so endearing and appealing. I understand he arrived last night and so I met him today and took him out for a walk after his photo shoot with Anne. He really is so unbelievably lovely. I tempted him towards the front of his pen with tiny bits of sausage, he was fitted with a harness and then we were off. He had his photo taken for the forum before we went into the woods. He was so well behaved - walked close to me whilst showing an interest in everything around him, no pulling and no reaction when he saw other dogs. Lovely little chap - an absolute delight. jan took out bert on sunday with eddie altho a tiny bit timid at first he was soon happy to have his harness put on and have a few cuddles outside and pose for a couple of pics - boy is bert a friendly pattie and he seems v dog friendly immediately getting on with eddie and seeing other dogs whilst walking without any reaction- we ducked round the side of the sewage works to a few empty fields which both dogs really enjoyed making sure we had a few obligatory treats stops on the way - back to the kennels where he let jan take of his harness without any fuss at all - what a star dog bert is so calm and good natured

Lovely photos - thank you. Bert and I had a great walk yesterday. He is a stunning little Patterdale with an endearing face and a shiny coat and his nature matches those gorgeous looks. He is just so well behaved, so easy to walk, so lovely. I went prepared to walk him again today but was delighted to find that he is now in foster. Bless him! I don't think he took to the noise and clamour of the kennel block and so he will be much happier in foster. I have absolutely no doubt he will be homed soon. Bert has a day out with me on Thursday- we got back quite late so an overnight too - he was an absolute star love4.gif A bit like a dynamo battery, all go and then flakes out !
Honestly this boy will play with a tennis ball for hours !

We thought he looked like superman with his blue collar and red harness aka Super powers cape !!! Bert is a superman love4.gif thumbs.gif love4.gif

Bert has a few hours at mine whilst I did a mornings work - very good inside, amused himself by rolling the tennis ball from the top of the stairs (just outside my study where I was working) and fetching it 0002.gif]
Outside it was a hot day but Bert quickly found himself a cool spot as I chatted with my neighbours over the fence !

Finished my work and we jumped into the car, Bert on the passenger seat next to me both of us with the cool fan From the air con pointed at us ! Bert travelled like a star, liked a tummy tickle, enjoyed watching where we were going every so often but settled down for a rest for most of the journey (1.5 hours).

Delighted in meeting my mum and dad in their garden, fabulous with them and loved being outside in the garden :D. And loved showing them how much he LOVES a tennis ball !!!

Placed his ball on the table when we stopped throwing it for him ! Not sure if he’s looking at the ball here or the fairy cakes !!!

I didn’t go inside but Bert could - here taking a rest just inside the french doors whilst I stayed outside !

Even swapped his tennis ball for a rope toy - I think he’d chewed up the tennis ball by then !!!
(Good boy enjoyed the challenge of de-furring the tennis ball and then chewing up the rubber bit by bit - didn’t eat any of it, left it all in a neat pile on the grass !!!)
