Buddy German Shep x ?Boxer DofB 19.04.18 Boxhill

Buddy Boy has had a good week. We've done pretty much the same walks and had loads of 121 time. He's not been interested in walking far but has been very receptive to sitting around and experiencing the sights and sounds. At these times I see Buddy at his best; relaxed, interested and just being Buddy.
Today we went to the log by the gate and Buddy finished his chew. We had maybe 15-20 mins relaxation before we walked. Buddy watched a few dogs go by and didn't reply to being shouted at by Baxter. I don't find him excessively riled by other dogs.
We've still been practicing walking without the ball and Buddy's impulse training has done wonders. Our relationship is based more on just being together. We get the best out of each other that way. I'm sure that a savvy and confident adopter would see Buddy flourish.

Took Buddy for his 2nd walk today. He's definitely benefiting from being out and around people more, and he is getting more used to being relaxed. This is a joyous thing.

No pics I'm afraid but Buddy was in fine form today and enjoyed his walk up to the river. He walked quite a bit of the way without a ball and was a good boy asking for one when he wanted it. Buddy has quite taken to a blue squiggy ball with a hole in the middle....not important I hear you say! But important it was when he dropped it in the river (twice) and it sank to the bottom
Not to be denied the object of his desire, Buddy stuck his head under the water and looked for it! He kept doing this until he found it (twice)
Buddy boy is special alright. Could he be the only Shepherd X that doesn't need a snorkel?

The Budster enjoying a dip and a relax in the yard.

Thought we'd take The Budster to the dog field for his birthday. Not that he knew anything about it, but enjoyed himself nonetheless. In fact he had an absolutely great time. A bit nervous on the way down to Rusper but great on the way back. While there, he had time for plenty of mooching, ball play, wallowing and general Buddiness. He was well behaved all the while and it was a pleasure to be out and about with him. Buddy will make someone a very fine dog one day.

Buddy Boy is really enjoying his time out and about now that he is learning how to relax. The intensity in his eyes is diminishing and occasionally he will give me a glance and actually make eye contact without wanting anything.
He has become quite the walking partner and it's a joy to see his favourite ball held lightly in the side of his mouth; a sure sign he is quite content.
He's learnt that he actually likes sniffing around and using his senses rather than charging about all the time (we do the more vigorous exercise before we walk, then take it easy). We've got a routine whereby I put my knees together and cup my hands and he will give me the ball back. Also if I sit down he will put the ball down on the seat beside me. I can stroke his head and face with the ball still in his mouth and get no reaction. He also likes to present his side and back legs for similar attention. He's quite the creature of habit and learns very quickly.
Buddy is quite happy to mooch around the kennel grounds watching the world go by. The extra 121 time that's he's had in the last year or so has proved to be very fruitful.
I'd certainly say that with the right introduction he's ready to go home. Buddy will be a fine and loyal friend.

Short vid of Budster just strolling through the woods. He always used to walk like he was in a mission. Much more tuned in to his surroundings now. Notice the quick changes of direction without any fuss (something Nat had worked on). He is very receptive and much more patient these days. The last time he nipped me was way back in April. I missed a Q after we'd been passed by some cars and I forgot to settle him. All good since then and indeed a few months before that. Absolutely convinced that he's ready to go home.

Took Buddy out late on today. Had a walk up the road and through the woods; where we met a rather large and handsome horse. We retraced our steps rather than squeezing by. Buddy was most interested but very well behaved. Ditto with passing traffic, wanted to have a lunge but restrained himself to half hearted attempts. He can be managed very well as long as you see the cars coming.
We've swapped Buddy over to a firmer rubber ball rather than tennis balls as he tends to pop and chew them. If he brings me back a tennis ball I won't throw it. We have to retrieve the Blue ball to resume play! He's got used to that routine and is noticeably less hyper around play.
Buddy is much more interactive these days. Lots of eye contact, lots of 121 time, less impulsive and enjoying things more. When he's out in front walking he looks so proud and pleased to be with someone. I'm no dog trainer but I just know that he's clever. Hopefully some soul will get the best out of him.
Today the ball dropped in a deep puddle while he was running around. Buddy was determined to retrieve it. Being part mud hound this was par for the course.
