Willow's Story: Willow was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Midlands council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Willow is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Willow came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick and enjoyed foster as a only pet whilst awaiting her new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Willow's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: We have been asked to help Willow as she has nowhere to go having served her time in the pound Willow came into RescueRemedies on the 18th December 25

Re: Willow Whippet Lurcher DofB 6.6.24 Caterham Christmas Foster
I am lucky enough to be fostering Willow for the Christmas break. She is an extremely friendly, trusting girl. When I went to pick her up from the kennels, despite it being our first meeting, she greeted me enthusiastically and got into the car without any hesitation.
She seems content during car journeys and, while she will sometimes curl up, at the moment she generally prefers to stand or sit up so she can watch the world go by! She has coped brilliantly with all the new experiences she has encountered so far. When we popped into Pets at Home today, she was happy to be greeted by others — both humans and dogs.
Willow loves attention and is at her happiest when she is lying next to you having tummy rubs and ear scratches. She enjoys chilling out on the sofa or in her own bed and sleeps through the night (though generally on my bed!). Every so often she will have a mad five minutes, throwing her toys around and zooming around the flat — it is so lovely to see her playful side — and then she will switch off again and go back to chilling out.
We have had to start toilet training from scratch, but I am confident that with a clear routine, and the fact that she is treat-motivated (though not obsessed, as she will politely refuse any she isn’t in the mood for), she will learn relatively quickly. She is easy to harness and walk, as she doesn’t pull at all, and she loves being out and about.
She is a delightful house guest!

Re: Willow Whippet Lurcher DofB 6.6.24 Caterham Christmas Foster
I met Willow yesterday when she came to visit with her fosterer. She is a very petty, slight girl, a little anxious but very affectionate, sweet and friendly.

Chilling out remains Willow’s favourite thing to do. Whether we’re at home or out visiting, she seeks out a chair or a lap to curl up on. She is very friendly and happily greets everyone she meets and she has not been at all worried about visiting new places. The more human attention, the better!
Willow willingly goes out on walks and doesn’t pull, although she can still be a little nervous around loud noises or lorries speeding past. At home, she is able to fully relax and her cheeky personality is starting to shine through. In addition to short bursts of zoomies, which really make me laugh, she will occasionally take the opportunity to pinch things — such as a roll of wrapping paper when she felt I was taking too long wrapping up presents — but she is not possessive of them. She is a wonderful companion and will be a brilliant addition to her forever family.

Re: Willow Whippet Lurcher DofB 6.6.24 Caterham Christmas Foster
We have been visiting a secure field regularly during Willow’s stay to allow her to have a run and let off steam. Although she enjoyed our first visit, she was a little unsure, didn’t venture far from me, and completely ignored the agility obstacles. She has gradually grown in confidence and now charges around at full speed — which is lovely to see — and has started to investigate the obstacles.
At home, she has learnt to play fetch with her toys and thoroughly enjoys this. She hasn’t quite got the hang of fetch with a ball in the field yet and has instead invented her own game: when I throw the ball, she runs to it, touches it, and then takes off on a lap of the field at breakneck speed!
Watching Willow grow in confidence and learn new things has been amazing. She is a very special dog who loves life.

Re: Willow Whippet Lurcher DofB 6.6.24 Caterham Christmas Foster
I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of fostering Willow. She has a gentle, easy-going nature, combined with a fun, cheeky side. On occasion, she will take the opportunity to help herself to things such as a toilet roll, packet and socks, or to check the kitchen counters… just in case! However, she always stops or drops the item as soon as she is told to and will then just walk away. Most of the time, she simply loves to cuddle up and relax.
She attracts a lot of attention when we are out and about, and melts hearts with her enthusiastic and affectionate greetings.
Willow will bring love, companionship and laughter to anyone who is able to offer her a new home.

A wonderful celebration for all.
