Zeus's Story: Zeus was found abandoned and unclaimed within a NW England council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Zeus is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Zeus came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Zeus' progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Welcome Zeus- what a little star!
I met him for the first time today and so fitted him for his harness and he was as calm as a cucumber while still being friendly.
We went to the paddock to allow him to let off a bit of steam, and he had a couple of zooms around, but each time returning to say hello. We then went for a decent walk, avoiding the worst of the mud in the woods. Zeus obviously likes to look after his appearance as he avoided the puddles and kept to the firmest bits of the path while walking very steadlily with no pulling, just a nice relaxed lead at all times.

He was so easy to walk, I could get the phone out to take this photo without any awkwardness.
This little chap is so easy going while still being interested in people and surroundings. He appreciated his snack but was very gentle accepting it without any real snack focus - just a polite thank you. He is just instantly likeable.

I was lucky enough to walk new boy Zeus for the first time today – what a lovely calm and friendly dog he is.

Zeus was all waggy tails when I got to his kennel and after first swopping his fetching doggy “onesie” for his harness we headed out for an immediate pitstop at the first decent size bush for a good wee.

As it was important to keep his stitches dry (he has just been neutered) it meant the muddy woods was probably not a good idea so we decided to walk into the village and stick to the pavements. This involved walking over the noisy motorway bridge but Zeus was not at all bothered by the traffic – even a noisy Biffa lorry and heavy earth lorry thundering past did not faze him. He was also very calm about waiting to cross the road – such a star.

During our walk we saw several dogs, cyclists and pedestrians and although he noticed them he did not react. At one point a black and white cat hiding in the bushes beside the pavement surprised us (made me jump) but again no reaction from Zeus other than “oh it’s only a cat – nothing to get excited about”. We had a lovely walk with lots of good sniffing :dog-75.gif: (Zeus not me) with slack leads throughout – he really was a joy to walk.

When we got back to his kennel I had the fun of refitting his “onesie” – this was the first time for me so it took a few attempts to get it fitted correctly but Zeus was so patient with me while I faffed around – he is obviously used to being handled.

We finished off with a couple of treats for being such a star which he took politely – he is such a gentleman.

I look forward to walking Zeus again although I don’t think it will be long before he finds his new family as he is such a lovely dog.

I met Zeus for the first time today and he’s a lovely boy, he’s wearing a surgical suit after his neuter and I had no problems getting it on or off him. He was easy to harness and walked with slack leads most of the time. He greeted a couple of other walkers and was loving the attention and treats. He was interested in other dogs but was a really good boy with no reactivity! He also has the prettiest eyes love4.gif

Re: Zeus Staffie x Shar Pei DofB 6.6.24 Redhill Overnight Stay

Post by PaulB »

I collected Zeus for an impromptu sleepover late yesterday afternoon. Yet another "wow!" dog - very good looking and ever so well mannered!

It was the first time we had met and he was cosy in his bed awaiting his tea when I arrived but he was quite happy to get ready and to hop into my car. He was as good as gold, sitting quietly and calmly on the back seat for the entire 20 minute drive. Indeed, at times I forgot he was there because he didn't make a sound and I couldn't see him in the dark!

Arriving home, he stood on the back seat while I clipped a lead onto his harness before hopping out of the car and entering the house. Again, no excitement; no drama - he just walked in and let me "undress" him (he was wearing a suitical a result of his recent neuter). A quick visit to the garden and then I gave him his tea, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

We then had a quiet evening together in the living room, with Zeus testing out all the various resting places (dog bed, sofa, sofa chair and rug). Before long it was time for bed. I took the dog bed up to my bedroom and Zeus lay in it while I visited the bathroom and got ready. Once I was in bed, he raised his head from where he lay and looked at me... I tapped the bed and he came up and joined me. There he spent the rest of the night - first at the bottom of the bed and then at the top, beside me. It wasn't cold but I kept a light blanket over him and he was perfectly content. He slept right the way through until morning, with just the odd shuffle to change position.

A little while after eating most of his breakfast this morning, we headed out for a walk. It was raining, blustery and generally gloomy but Zeus didn't object. He allowed me to towel him down and wipe his feet on our return, which I was very impressed with because Blacka never used to like being dried off (or getting wet in the first place for that matter!)

Since then he's finished his breakfast; we've popped out again to take a parcel to the local post office counter; we've had a bit of play time; he's had some treats and we've generally taken it easy. If I could have him for longer (or even to stay until he found a home) I wouldn't hesitate, but sadly I'm not going to be at home much for the next few days and I'm not in a position to take him with me.

It's taken me no time at all to get the measure of this boy - I think he's perfect! First time dog owner? You couldn't have a better introduction - apply now because he won't be with us for long!

Zeus is the most gorgeous boy!

He is so sweet, gentle & calm. He was very happy to go for a walk and when out and about, he was impeccably behaved. He just plods along next to you and showed no interest in other dogs.

I can’t wait to walk him again but as you can imagine he is extremely popular at RR. I don’t for-see him being in rescue for long. Whoever adopts this wonderful boy is extremely lucky ♥️

I walked Zeus for the first time on Friday and wow I think he might be the easiest dog I have ever walked / handled, not just at RR but in general!
He was happy to see me even though we had only met once out on a walk, was very welcoming and up for some affection in his kennel. He’s still wearing his recovery suit as he’s recovering from being neutered so I had to take that off before harnessing him and he wasn’t bothered at all, let me take it off and put his harness on with no fuss what so ever.
We walked into the village along the pavement and he was amazing! Doesn’t pull at all, stops and waits as soon as you stop. Completely fine with traffic and busy roads, we even walked over the M23 and he was just unfazed. He was unbothered by dogs walking past him on the other side of the road, just likes to plod along and have a little sniff.
I can’t believe how easy it was to put his suit back on when we got back, he just stood there while I faffed around with it, he’s just incredibly easy and sweet natured. I’m sure he’s going to be a very very popular boy among the walkers, and hopefully will find his forever home very soon.

I was told by some of the other walkers that Zeus was my type of dog and they were not wrong. What an easy polite young dog he is. I could repeat everything that Ania said but I won’t as I experienced everything the same. He is a wonderful dog who won’t be with us for long but if he is then I’ve put him top of my Christmas foster dog list love4.gif
