Marie's Story: Marie was found abandoned and unclaimed within a council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Marie will be neutered, chipped, and undergoing vaccinations. Marie came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Marie went to our vets yesterday for a full examination. She has a newly cracked front canines but other than this is in good health. She commenced vaccinations and is currently on our worming programme which all our dogs receive on arrival.

Marie is booked in for spay and a dental next Tuesday.

Marie was very well received in the vets and met a spaniel x in the waiting room. She has had a very sheltered life so everything seems in techicolour. She is starting to be introduced to life late on. She is going to have a wonderful life and fulfill her family to be.

I walked Marie yesterday and what a sweetheart she is! You can tell she has so much love to give although at the moment she is quite nervous. She looked quite worried with her tail between her legs when I saw her in her kennel so I went in slowly and gently and knelt down sideways to let her approach me. After having a good sniff of me she backed off but then came back to me and I discreetly clipped her leads on while tickling her under the chin.
Once out, her tail went up from between her legs and she enjoyed having a good sniff round while walking through the woods. She was completely unfazed by seeing other dogs, even when they barked at her as we walked past their kennels. She really enjoyed rummaging about on the sofa in the ‘poets hut’ and was trying her best to sit on my knee or just rest her head on my lap. She is really affectionate and her chocolate brown fur is lovely and soft! We also stopped off at a picnic bench and her paws were straight up on the bench, she leaned into me for more cuddles and was enjoying looking around to see what was going on. When I returned her to her kennel and she saw I had some bits of sausage for her, she jumped up a little but with a gentle ‘no, get down’ from me she didn’t persist. Lovely dog.

Well what a difference a day makes.
Very late in the day I met and walked the lovely Marie.
I got a wonderful welcome in fact she came over to me and nestled against me while i put the leads on her.

No reaction to the other dogs as we left her kennel and walked to the gate.
Marie waited patiently while I opened and closed behind me.

It was dark so she was a little tentative at first but after some reassuring “good girl” comments she soon settled into a comfortable pace and stopped a few times for a sniff.

Marie is smaller than I expected and very light on the lead with no pulling at all.
When we returned to her kennel she gave me a cuddle jumping up very gently and didnt want me to go.
Kiss of love.gif
Absolutely adorable little girl who is going to be very popular with the other walkers.

I walked Marie today for the first time and she’s so lovely. She was easy to put the leads on and left her kennel without any reaction to the other dogs. We tried to walk with Joanne but she was very strong and pulled a lot on the lead, so for Marie to have a nicer walk we went our separate ways. As soon as we did Marie walked lovely without any pulling.

After our walk we went to the paddock and Marie was so loving and affectionate. She loves a good scratch and was trying to get onto my lap for a good cuddle. Marie went back into her kennel perfectly and loved a little cuddle before I left. I look forward to walking her in the future ♥️

I met Marie for the first time today and she is gorgeous! Mostly walks nicely on the lead but is stronger than she looks, didn’t bark at any of her neighbours coming out, and enjoyed a good sniff. I took her to the paddock where all she wanted was cuddles, my partner came and joined us and she ran over to him happily and got more cuddles from him. We went to the poets hut as we thought she’d be comfier there and she loved watching the world go by.

I saw Marie was going on a foster break today so managed a quick walk before she left.
Marie is such a sweet, gentle girl who welcomed me in and nestled against me.
After a walk along the lane we went back to the walkers area where she sat on one of the chairs and was showered with love from several walkers who hadn’t met her before.
Marie was absolutely loving all the attention and we are all so excited to see her go into her foster home where we are all certain she will show potential adopters how gorgeous she is.

I was privileged to be the one to take Marie out and get her modelling photo shoot done and wow what a lovely girl she is.
A bit nervous of the world at the moment but once she realises that she is safe her tail goes up and she walks lovely. I’ve walked her with a few dogs now and shows no signs of any reactivity whatsoever. She is good on the roads and loves people. She is a bit strong on the lead initially but soon settles into her pace and sniffs along. She is an amazing all round girl who will be a lovely addition to any family.

Everyone loves Marie! Including our builders!

Marie has been on foster with us for 24 hours and she’s just the most wonderful loyal little girl.
When I brought her home it was very clear that she’s spent little or no time in a home before, she required guidance with things like counter surfing, what the TV is, and when the humans are eating their food it’s not for her.

She worries she won’t get her dinner or that she might get left outside (so she chooses to spend very little time in the garden and excitedly runs back to the house). Routine will sort that.

Everything I’ve mentioned above she’s completely acing - within 24 hours!

Marie is super easy to house train, I took her on regular outside breaks and she’s not had a single accident indoors - she gets her business done and excitedly heads back to the house.

Marie doesn’t seem to know how to play yet with a ball or a toy, this will come with time no doubt.

Cuddles you ask? Well those are endless, Marie requires sofa and bed time with you because understandably given what she’s been through, she craves affection and love.

I’ve been able to work from my desk all day (with Marie breaks) and she’s happily slept on the bed beside me.
She also sleeps soundly through the night but wants to be very close to you.

The one area Marie would need help in; and is already showing her training capability in is lead walking.
Marie is very strong, however I’ve already spent 30mins in guiding her on a lead with treat rewards and she’s showing so much progress - the lead walking will come with time and persistence.

This girl is just so wonderful - if you’re a lover of Staffy’s and your home is full of love and time then this girl is for you!
