Denim Profile.jpg

Denim's Story: Denim was found abandoned and unclaimed within a London council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Denim is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Denim came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Denim's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: We were asked to help 2 dogs found together but unsure if they had been abandoned by the same family. They had run out of time.

What a fabulous boy. Denim was quite nervous in the kennel, wouldn’t take treats from my hand, and kept backing away. Slowly we reassured him, and put a lead on his collar and took him to the car park, where he was a different dog. Stood beautifully while I put his harness on, wanted to say hello to people, quite relaxed. We had a lovely walk, slack leads throughout. We passed 3 different dogs and he seems totally non-reactive. Very human friendly. A real sweetheart love4.gif

Lynne recommended I introduce myself to Denim (she knows I can't resist a Staffie!) and so I did just that today.

The poor boy has currently lost his voice as when he greeted me with a bark or two when I first approached his run, there wasn't much noise to it! He gently accepted a couple of sausage chunks and I then let myself in without any fuss. He was happy to have a stroke and a tickle for a few moments before calmly letting me fit his harness. This is quite different to Geoff's reported experience yesterday, but there were no signs of nerves today and I'm confident this is his norm now.

Wow, Denim is a total dream to walk! He did so with slack leads for the entire time and at a leisurely but comfortable pace, with regular sniff stops.

While we were walking down the lane, a couple of joggers zipped past us from behind (no reaction - too busy sniffing a leaf!); a large van came towards and we stepped aside to let it pass (nothing again); a chap was using a huge petrol leaf blower and kept it at idle when he saw us (not bothered by the sound it made on full blast and zero interest in it or him when we passed).

Whilst walking through the woods, Sue caught us up with Farran (we had stopped so I could take some photos). Again, Denim showed no interest and was perfectly happy for Farran to follow us up to the point where they headed in a different direction.

I feel another foster coming on!

Took Denim for his photoshoot yesterday
As above he is a little nervous and not too sure of his environment, which is understandable
He was very easy to harness and was happy to go for a walk
He definitely would have stayed out longer but knew it was dinner time
No interest in other dogs we saw
A slow gentle approach for this boy and it won’t be long before he comes out of his shell

I met Denim today and what a cutie he is! Very wiggly and excited for me to come in his kennel and harness up. Ignored his barking neighbours and wasn’t really interested in dogs on the walk either. He walks nicely on the lead and does lots of sniffing. I took him to the paddock where he had a play with a toy, some scratches and a little photoshoot (he loves cheese)

He’s a clever boy who knows how to sit and give his paw

Not quite a sit but it was very cute..

As I was in the area yesterday afternoon I popped into the kennels and had the pleasure of meeting Denim for a brief photoshoot. He was a little worried as can be seen by his expression but I'm sure he'll settle quickly and be very popular with the volunteers. He's certainly stunning!

Gem walked Denim while I walked Selwyn today. Neither of them were bothered at all about the presence of the other and were perfectly happy to show the way or to follow. Lovely! thumbs.gif

I got the chance to walk this gorgeous boy again today. We walked with Selwyn and he was slightly keener to follow along and pick up the pace so the leads weren't slack but he was by no means pulling me along.

When I arrived at his kennel, his little face was looking at me lovingly and there was no sign of nervousness. He wasn't keen on the harness going over his head but that was easy to overcome with some calm reassurance and the second it was over his head, he just stood there to let me clip it on.

We encountered a terrier on our walk and there was a bark off and a slight pull, but the second I told him NO, he looked at me and stopped. We passed several people and he was perfectly happy to stand and watch them pass us.

I sat on a bench with him with the hope of some cuddles but he was too engrossed in everything going on round him, so we headed back to his kennel. Interestingly, the second I knelt down to unharness him and say goodbye, I got to see the wiggly staffy dance and he pressed in tight to me for a good stroke.

This boy is becoming a firm favourite already.

Well today Denim went to the dentist and was neutered at same time. He had two vets working on him as he needed two canines extracted, which is a huge job, and another tooth also. He was under general anesthetic a long time, so the second vet neutered him at the other end! Chipped also, so all done!

Lovely boy who the vets judged to be about 6 years old.

Paul collected him from the vets and is giving him tender loving care. Denim gets really stressed in kennels and lives on his nerves...his voice is 'hoarse'.

Much needed respite Denim, enjoy!
