Norman Profile.jpg
Norman's Story: Norman was found abandoned with another dog and unclaimed within a London council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Norman is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Norman came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Norman's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: We were asked to help 2 dogs found together but unsure if they had been abandoned by the same family. They had run out of time.

I met Norman for the first time today and when I went into his kennel I was greeted with lots of wiggles and he went straight onto his back for a tummy rub. He walks really well, at times he can pull but it’s manageable. He absolutely loved a cuddle in the paddock- I tried to get some photos of him but he doesn’t stay still but will try again soon!

Norman and Calita walked really nicely together today! Norman walks better at the front if you want slack leads, when walking behind calita he was more excited / wanted to keep up with her! He met another walker on the way back and gave her some cuddles love4.gif

Had a lovely walk with Norman yesterday! First time meeting me and he welcomed me into his kennel with happy energy and lots of licks
We went on a short walk round the woods and a little play in the paddock
He was very curious and sniffed a lot
He loves a cuddle and rubs his body against you to get some good scratches!
I think he will give lots of love to his walkers and vice versa!

Norman was neutered today and had one of his canine teeth out which was broken. It takes a long time to extract as the root is longer than the tooth and takes a lot of manoeuvring and strength. Job done and now Norman can relax and heal. Wonderful at the vets loved by all.

His coat is a deep chocolate brown

I had the pleasure of walking this handsome chap yesterday and today and what a darling boy he is! ❤️ love4.gif

Norman is clearly very affectionate towards people and was very excited to meet me, as I was him! He was quite excitable when putting on his harness but he calmed very quickly and waited patiently for me to open the door to his kennel. He walked calmly past the other dogs and I saw no reactivity.

He walks extremely well on the lead, loved a soft treat and sat when asked. We also encountered horses today to which he didn’t react. He was interested, but didn’t park or try and pull towards them. He enjoyed walking with another dog, calmly when he was in the lead and only started to pull slightly for the first time when the other dog was in the lead. Upon returning, we passed another dog and he did begin to pull towards them, but with some encouragement, quickly walked on.

I took him to the paddock for a run around and he LOVED it! He was very loving and affectionate and my goodness he is so adorable! He looks like a gorgeous baby seal and I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t get snapped up soon! love4.gif woo.gif]

Norman came home with me this afternoon, he jumped in the car without and problems. We went for a walk round the block when we got back, he was unphased by the traffic going by. We met a couple of dogs but I think they made each other jump coming round the corner so they all barked. He met my neighbours children and enjoyed the fuss, leaning into them for strokes. Once back at mine he explored the house and has a few zoomies. He then settled down and went to sleep, was sad having to take him back.
I can’t believe he was abandoned, he is such a loving and cuddly dog and would fit into a new home with ease.

Normans Diary

Well my charm must have worked on Debby as I'm back staying with her & Jim for a while. She collected me after work on Monday, as it was dark and nothing to see I laid down in the back of the car until we got home. Jim came to meet us from the car as Debby had all her work stuff as well as me to juggle, I walked nicely with Jim back to the house, I've got him trained already as my dinner was ready for me within minutes of getting through the door. I like to take my time eating my dinner but will sit to wait for it to be put down, as it was my first meal at the house I did leave a little but returned later to finish it off.

I wasn't keen on the dog bed so did my best to avoid it and snuggled up on the sofa with Debby for the evening, I gave her enough space so she could knit but had a paw in contact with her at all times. As I don't like the dog bed I had to sleep on their bed for the night, sometimes I was on top of the covers other times I went under between Debby & Jim.

Debby was working from home on Tuesday but took me out for a walk to do my business before she started. I spent the day either on the sofa bed, laying next to the dog bed or under her desk. Debby had to go out in the evening but Jim was also working from home so I was able to keep him company whilst he worked until Debby got back - I was then split as to whether I should be upstairs supervising Jim or downstairs keeping Debby company but I decided to keep going between them both. Again I spent the night on the bed between them, I don't move much but can spread out to take up more room than I should 0002.gif]

Wednesday Debby had to go to the office but she took me out first, then I managed to convince Jim to take me out later when he got up :biggrin.gif: Even though Debby had given me my breakfast I still had to watch whilst Jim had his, he did share some toast crusts with me :yes.gif:

Jim had to work in London so left the house at lunch time telling me that Debby would be back in a few hours. I didn't like being left so barked and paced the kitchen plus avoided the dog bed that had now been moved to the kitchen. Debby was watching me on the camera and could see I was upset so came home to work for the rest of the day, I was very excited to see her and didn't let her out of my sight for the rest of the day. I think if the time leaving me is built up slowly I will get used to it just knowing that someone is coming home to me and I've not been abandoned.

Debby found another dog bed for me to sleep in - I like this one better and was straight in it.

When Debby finished work it was dark, she popped on a Hi-Viz vest under my harness so people would see us as I'm nearly black we didn't want to make people jump.

I am interested in what they eat but I won't steal from the plate or get too close, when I'm told it's not for me I will walk away and lay down, I also like to supervise what is going in the dishwasher and will often stick my head in when the door is open.

Wednesday night Jim tried to get me to sleep in the dog bed rather than on/in their bed - in total I managed 4 hours but they are hoping to build this up so I'm in it all night but we will see!
Thursday - Debby is working from home again today, she has to pop out later and hopes that I will settle whilst she is out.

Thank you for reading my diary, I am very loveable and cuddly, do you have space for me on your sofa/bed and in your life?
