Leo's Story: Leo was found abandoned and unclaimed within a council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Leo is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Leo came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our Dog Homing Questionnaire. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Original referral information:
Hi Lynne,

Thank you so much for offering to help this lovely little lad.

He's 18mth old approx, is neutered and has had his first vaccination with Lepto 4 I will send proof and details of when 2nd one is due. He had had a NexGard flea and worm treatment and he's on Apoquel for dry itchy skin.

Reactive to other dogs on lead so has to be muzzled around them. He will come with a list of things he likes and doesn't like from his temporary foster carer.

Thank you again for being the only rescue that would help save Leo from certain death tomorrow.

Kind regards,

Joanne

Leo was taken when 8 months in by a lady in her 40s with children, an elderly lurcher and many cats. Leo spent most of his time in a crate. She neutered Leo, was unable to rehome him and when she lost her lurcher he became more reactive outside so she stopped walking him and he was placed in an aviary as a kennel to give him relief from the cats and crate. Another Rescue heard she had decided she was putting him to sleep as it was no life for him. The temporary foster finishes tomorrow and there is nowhere for Leo. They have flea and worm treated him, started his vaccinations and tried to help him with his itchy skin probably from cat fur, feathers and stress.
We agreed to save his life and instead of the vets Leo is coming into our care tomorrow.

Dear Leo has arrived. Poor love his life just hasnt worked out for him as with so many 'high end' terriers. A working breed who demonstrates their working traits particularly when outside the home.

ATM Leo is 'alarmist or voically engaged' at seeing dogs and tends to be full stretch of the leads, dancing and singing loudly! He is semi conscious of his handler and when the 'temperature' goes down he does connects with his handler with a sweet 'plea' for reassurance. Affectionate and currently out of his depth: Day 1. No more crates my lad other than to travel in. We have juggled our kennels around as we do when we are accommodating a new dog and he is now in a detached kennel with a quiet outlook, other than he will be able to see dogs in the paddock 30 yards away and dogs in the distance walking the lands.

He reminds us of darling Teds but he doesn't cling to the leads. He has now been with us 7 hours and he has been quiet since being introduced to his kennel. He understands the lay of the land and the Staff love him already. At the moment he would 'free himself' and fly at dogs due to adrenaline levels, so is managed securely. We will keep on the lands where he will be aware of dogs but most of his woodland walk he will be out of visual range. Early days but we welcome dear Leo the lionheart!

I went to introduce myself to Little Leo through his pen door. What an absolute cutie! So little, so friendly, so absolutely charming.
I know he becomes a different little dog when he sees/meets other dogs and that is an issue which must be treated sensitively and calmly. However, all I can say is that he will be so worth the effort of trying to help him settle in his environment at the kennels first of all and then in his own home. Good luck little man.

First time meeting Leo today. He was waggy tailed as I entered his kennel. Easy to clip his lead on. He’s very worried about everything, especially dogs walking towards him. We stayed on site and in the paddock (with lead on). When he sees a moving dog, he’s very vocal and pulls but he’s quite slight and not overly powerful, so pretty easy to manage on the lead. As we walked past dogs in kennels, he barked a little but wasn’t so bothered with them as he was with the dogs which were moving around the area. He was distracted and calmed very quickly when walking past the kennels. He wasn’t reactive back towards me at all.
Leo was very happy to meet Sarah, Richard and Tom. Waggy tailed and very willing for contact.

Oooooo lovely Leo ❤️

What a sweetheart, early days as he settles in with us, he’s going to get so much love and I’m sure with time will relax more, super alert but then he’s a Patterdale !

Cuddles in the Poets hut, very quick to jump up between me and Nicky ❤️

Lovely pics of sweet little Leo. I came across him once or twice this week being walked by Tricia. He looked on high alert and very wired but it will take time for him to settle and no better person to help with that than Tricia.
He is a dear little dog - and the future is looking much brighter for him.
