Calita's Story: Calita was found abandoned and unclaimed within a E Midlands council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Calita is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Calita came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £300 (£500 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information:
Hi Lynne, We have a female Akita who will be pts any day now as the pound is full.

She needs an.offer.to save her. She does have 1 months EB but pound won't release without her having an offer. Could RescueRemedies possibly help her?

Hate asking as know you under pressure. Kind Regards Lx

Calita is a new arrival so thought I would see how she is settling and take her out for a walk.
I was very calm and respectful entering and Calita was happy to let me get her ready.
She was calm and relaxed going off site.
We saw Nori and Wendy from a distance while we were out and Calita showed no signs of reactivity.
We saw one squirrel and she looked up and stood for a moment but happily moved on when I said lets go.
Calita is very pretty, I stroked her gently a few times.
Not once did Calita pull on the leads.
Calita walked calmly back to her kennel and allowed me gently to remove the leads.
She was an absolute pleasure to walk and I look forward to walking her again soon.

Took Calita out again today and she seemed to remember me and was happy to be going for a walk.
She was definitely a bit more relaxed today and walked a lot faster.
We went down a different path which went across a road and Calita waited beautifully for a break in the traffic.
She seemed quite interested in the stream running around the edge of the path and I thought she was going to jump in the stream but she just put her foot in then changed her mind.
There was lots of sniffing which was lovely to see.
We didnt pass anyone or any other dogs but was an angel returning to her kennel.
Early days for this sweet girl but certainly looks like she is settling.
Hopefully she wont have to wait long for her forever home.

I walked Calita for the first time today and she is just lovely! She was already waiting to go out for her walk when I got to her kennel and happily let me clip the leads to her harness. We walked with Dash and they both walked great together. Any time Dash wanted to stop for a sniff she would wait patiently and would come to me for a stroke or a face lick! She takes treats so gently and just seems very well behaved. Calita walked really nicely the whole walk, no pulling and just seems like a big softie! 🐶💕

I met Calita for the first time today and she was a dream! Easy to enter kennel and put the leads on, barely pulls, no reactions to any dogs - even her kennel neighbours. She seems to really like humans and even got some scratches in the woods when we bumped into another volunteer (who’d never met her before). She absolutely loved having a splash in the stream! She didn’t take treats from me initially but by the end of the walk she confirmed we were friends by taking some treats 🥰

Walked the lovely Calita this week for the first time. I befriended her from outside her kennel and she gently took some treats from me. Soon harnessed up we were off and although she looks as if she could be strong, she walked like a dream ambling along and didn't pull at all - with slack leads the whole time. She showed no reaction to other dogs. She didn't seem to want attention or fuss at first during the walk but halfway round I tapped my leg and called her - she had a little sniff of me and the leads then leaned into my leg and enjoyed a nice head scratch.
Upon our return she waited very patiently while having her photo shoot, posing nicely and showing off a very cute head tilt!

The lovely calita - easy to put the leads on and she walks nicely with a bounce in her step. Not reactive to dogs but she is interested. She enjoys a quick scratch half way through the walk too
