Nigel just being the best boy ever as usual, we have thoroughly enjoyed our autumn walks and will miss the leaves. You can see in the videos what an easy chilled walk it is with Nigel, he just loves a good stroll ❤️

I fostered Nigel for the third time last weekend and as always he was the perfect house guest. He’s such a joy to have around, and I just love every second with him. This time we had my sisters house to ourselves and because he knows it well now he pretty much went straight to sleep on the sofa, he was so tired and so grateful for a warm, comfy spot, even more happy when he found out we were sleeping in her king size bed. The next morning he clearly still had lots of sleep to catch up on, because he didn’t wake up properly till around midday. He’s the cutest sleepover buddy, super cuddly but also gives you space to sleep, it’s the perfect balance. Every now and then he’d wake up, look at me, then wriggle into my arms for a cuddle.

I took him for a long walk around south London with a friend, mostly sticking to residential streets to avoid off-lead dogs since he doesn’t love them running up to him. He was amazing! Walked perfectly on the lead, ignored people and on-lead dogs (I give him space around passing dogs and with just a bit he’s unfazed and non reactive) and completely unbothered by everything; kids on bikes, prams, traffic… my friend was so impressed. We stopped at her flat for a cup of tea and he was so chill, said hi to her boyfriend, explored a bit, then soaked up cuddles while watching a roast being cooked. He really is such an easygoing dog.

He’s so polite with food, I ate a pizza on the sofa whilst he was sleeping next to me, he looked up once then went back to sleep. He understands what’s his food and what’s yours, although I do share my bananas with him as he loves them. He is quite attached and likes to follow me around, but that always gets better towards the end of the weekend. Once he settled somewhere comfy, like the bed, he was totally fine sleeping on his own while I showered. Its no surprise he sticks close at first, he’s been abandoned three times that we know of, and I’m his familiar person. I’m sure once he has his forever home he’ll settle quickly.

He wasn’t happy about our early Monday morning start, took some convincing to get him out of bed… He is not a morning dog and could’ve happily stayed there all day but I’d booked him a secure field on the way back to RR.
He’s usually non-reactive in the car, but on the drive back from London when we were stopped at traffic lights he reacted to a couple of dogs walking past, which he’s never done before. At the secure field there were horses in the field next to us and he didn’t react at all, just more interested in the horse poo on the other side of the fence.

I honestly can’t put into words how much I love this boy. Even the way he looks at me just melts my heart, those warm eyes, that waggly tail, and the way he smiles with his whole body. It hurts so much that I can’t adopt him, but I know his perfect person is out there, and he deserves the best forever home. I’m so grateful for every moment I get with him. I’ll love this angel boy forever ❤️

Nigel has been so good walking in the rain, cold and mud this week, usually he hates the rain but he has still been very much up for his walks this week!
We had a lovely walk with new boy Zeus, Nigel and Zeus walked so nicely together. Nigel lunged initially when we stopped at the gate to get out of the grounds and Zeus was walking towards him, but other than that initial encounter they walked so nicely together the whole walk.
He’s been enjoying his usual treat hunts on fallen down trees - he now goes straight up to this one tree every time we go past thinking the treats are already laid out for him it’s so cute. He’s also been super playful in the paddock enjoying off lead time, we had a good run around together, he’s just been such a happy boy as usual ❤️

Foster Report for Nigel:

IMG_2065.jpeg

I had the privilege of fostering Nigel for eight glorious days at the end of November. It was a cold spell and I thought I’d treat the boy to some cosy times at home. Although we already knew each other well - my sister had fostered him in my home several times - I wasn’t prepared to fall completely head-over-heels for this beautiful boy. Some beings seem to come to this world purely to radiate and teach us love, and Nigel is absolutely one of them. He is exceptionally affectionate, a huge softy , deeply grateful of every home comfort which he shows with those gorgeous brown eyes, endless cuddles, and sweet little kisses.

During Nigel’s stay I experienced a medical emergency and needed several trips to A&E. Nigel adapted instantly. He was cared for by my dad and brother on two separate occasions, and welcomed them into the house as though he’d known them forever - greeting them with his trademark cuddles and happy waggles. When I returned home to recover, he became the perfect companion. He walked gently beside me through London’s streets and parks, calmly passing dogs, cats, and ducks, always keeping to my slow pace as if he knew exactly what I needed.

Towards the end of the week I had builders in the house gutting the bathroom, and Nigel was completely unfazed. After a polite hello and a sniff and waggle, he simply returned to bed for a long snooze, entirely at ease with the chaos around him.

At home, Nigel was a dream. His favourite place is undeniably the sofa - or curled up on the bed - where he can snooze the day away… He’s an older boy with the biggest heart who adores being cosy and close to his person.

We finished our week with a joyful morning in a secure dog field. Nigel had a fantastic time running off-lead, exploring the frozen lake, and never straying far from me. His recall was excellent. Even when returning to kennels, he remained his cheerful, easygoing self. Nothing seems to phase this beautiful boy; he is a joy in every situation.

Despite his size, Nigel is truly a baby at heart—goofy, playful, affectionate, and loyal. Everyone who meets him falls instantly in love. He is a gentle giant with a loving soul who deserves a warm, stable home where he can share all the love he has to give. Whoever is lucky enough to welcome Nigel into their life and home will gain a VERY special companion.

Nigel’s Behaviour & Observations

Personality & Temperament

• Extremely loving, affectionate, easygoing, and playful
• A big baby who LOVES toys and balls
• Very loyal to his person but friendly with everyone
• Intelligent, well-trained, and eager to please
• Gentle taking treats and gentle in play
• Understands boundaries — doesn’t jump up, doesn’t counter surf, waits at the door, etc.
• Loyal — follows you room to room, but as the week progressed he gained confidence; for example, while I was gardening he was happy chewing his bone alone in the living room (not a fan of cold/ rain)

At Home

• Fully house-trained
• Loves long snoozes; big sleeper, sweetest snores
• Does not bark at people passing the house or knocking at the door
• Noise tolerant — completely unfazed by city sounds in and outside the home
• Manages stairs (a little stiff so not too many stairs for the old boy)
• Happy indoors with occasional sniffs and toilet breaks in a small London garden
• Does not steal food when left alone
• Can be left at home for short periods (longer durations yet to be tested)
• Sleeps through the night easily (likes a lie-in)

Out & About

• Excellent on-lead walker
• Walks calmly past people and most on-lead dogs
• Slightly reactive (low growls, slight pulling) if another dog approaches him directly on lead — needs more testing to determine true reactivity
• Mild, manageable prey drive toward foxes (but getting better with exposure)
• Loves short walks and is happy with city life
• Recall is very good in secure areas

Travel & Handling

• Rides beautifully in the car
• Can be left in the car briefly without stress
• Can be cared for by new people with no issues
• Super easy to handle, bathe, and harness
• No resource guarding whatsoever

Suitability

• Strong boy — would suit someone confident and physically capable (I am 5’2” and manage him comfortably as he doesn’t pull)
• Ideal for a calm, loving home where he can enjoy comfort, companionship, and plenty of sleep

I cannot vouch for this boy enough - he is the perfect dog. If you are looking for a large, gentle giant with a goofy, playful side, then Nigel is the one for you. He is pure love and pure magic. It has been a blessing to foster him, and I cannot wait to spend time with him again. Photos and videos don’t do this boy justice; if you are on the fence, come meet him and experience for yourself just how special he is ❤️

Nigel – Foster Report, Round 2

I fostered Nigel again for a long weekend last weekend - I wanted to give him another break from kennel life… but also because I missed the sweet boy…

This time we stayed at my boyfriend’s flat, as builders at my place had unexpectedly removed the bathroom window and turned the house into a bit of a tip. Nigel adjusted to the new environment seamlessly. He was a little quiet at first - probably wondering why we were there - but within an hour he was rolling around and being his goofy self.

I honestly can’t express enough how sweet-natured and easy going this boy is. The more time he spends away from the kennels, the more he comes into his own. He’s a big, playful baby who loves cuddles, pottering around, and of course… food. He’s still a little underweight from kennel stress, so we’ve been working on fattening him up. He’s so patient and grateful for every meal. After he eats, he always comes over to say thank you with food stuck to his nose, then does a celebratory roly-poly, plays with his toys or a bone (sometimes even treats us to a slow-motion zoomie!), and finally waddles off for another nap - complete with deep snores ❤️

On the first day, we walked to the local farmers’ market, and he was amazing! He sat by my side while I ate lunch, happily watching the world go by. We passed a few dogs on leads and he was unfussed, except for one very enthusiastic bully puppy who got a small lunge - but we moved on quickly with no trouble. On the way back he slowed down a bit, so I think shorter walks suit him best for now.

The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing at the flat and wandering around local parks and the neighbourhood. Nigel is fantastic on the lead and loves to plod along, taking in all the smells and sights . I also discovered that he is really interested in playgrounds - maybe he thinks they’re giant toys. And he’s making big progress with London foxes; we even watched one from a distance. Nigel was more fascinated than fixated, which is great if he finds his forever home back in London.

We ended the foster break with another trip to a secure field, this time with my sister Ania - Nigel’s biggest advocate. He was hilarious, making us laugh to the point of tears with his fearless leaps into the lakes and him zooming around. It’s such a joy to watch him run off-lead. Once again, his recall was amazing and he never strayed far.

I truly can’t fault this boy. He’s goofy, playful, funny, loving, cuddly, well-behaved, intelligent, easy-going, and relaxed. He’s genuinely the best dog. I’d take him in a heartbeat if it weren’t for my little old dog, Violet. He so deserves a warm, loving home for Christmas. ❤️

This boy never fails to impress me ❤️

IMG_2397.jpeg

We had a few friends over for drinks last night, and Nigel absolutely loved all the female attention - hugging everyone with his giant head. He is a true people dog through and through and always wants to be touching someone.

Later in the evening, I headed out to a friend’s place for the countdown and left Nigel snoozing in bed with my partner. At midnight, fireworks went off right outside our door and created a horrendous amount of noise. According to my partner, Nigel was AMAZING - he handled it so well. No fear at all, just lifting his head in curiosity. He really is the most chilled-out dog I’ve ever met. So easygoing, so loving, and an absolute joy to have around.

After a late night, a quick trip to the garden, and his first breakfast of the year, he’s now back in bed catching up on some much-needed shut eye (this boy can sleep for dayssss).

Let’s make 2026 the year Nigel finds a comfy bed of his own and a kind-hearted family to share his big head cuddles ❤️

Here’s some of his latest antics -
