Nigel's Story: Nigel was found abandoned and unclaimed within a London council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Nigel will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Nigel came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Hi Lynne, I hope you are well.

We were wondering if you would be able to help us. We are looking for a space/waiting list place for a stray dog who has been with us since 14/04/2025. He has now completed his stray days and is ready to be rehomed.

I've attached a picture of the beautiful boy, his name is Nigel. We estimate him to be around 5-7 years old, a 40kg entire male Mastiff. He was found abandoned in an enclosed football pitch in a park. He is friendly with people, although can be a bit excitable. He has taken a liking to my colleague Gloria and occasionally humps her, but we have not seen this behaviour present with any other person. He walks really well on the lead. However, we've found that he can be reactive to other dogs. He can walk past them with no issue, however if they come up to him, especially from the front and especially if they are high energy can lunge.

We know he was also found as a stray in Kent in 2021 and was later found as a stray in July 2022 and returned to his owner. They have shared this owner's information with us and upon dropping a Section 149 letter to the address, found that he had been evicted the day Nigel was found. I managed to speak with the owner's mother who said the owner was living in his car, had rehomed the dogs and was unreachable and does not want Nigel back.

His stray days are now completed and we are keen to find a rescue place for him. He is such a lovely boy that we are happy to keep hold of him until a place on the waiting list becomes available. Please let us know if you can help, or if you know someone else who might be able to.

Thanks so much, Ax

Selwyn and I had a lovely walk with new boy Nigel and Michelle.

They instantly hit it off and both boys were great on their walk together ♥️.

I took Nigel for a long walk yesterday. Although he was a little nervous when I went into his room, when I showed him the leads, and he realised he was going for a walk, he was all happiness. Such an easy dog. Slack leads throughout, walking at my side at my pace, ignored traffic and passers-by, and non-reactive with other dogs. A real pleasure to take Nigel out.

I walked Nigel today for the first time and he’s such a lovely boy! So easy to walk, just walks along side you at a slow pace and loves a cuddle.

He knows basic commands such as sit, paw and let’s go. He takes treats so gently and is just an all round good dog. He passes people and dogs out on walks really well, apart from one off lead dog we passed today that did get a bit close to him which he did pull a bit towards. Overall Nigel is great and would probably like a slow paced forever home with lots of cuddles! 💚

This boy is just absolutely gorgeous inside and out ♥️

He is a pleasure to walk, he just plods along beside you and is great following another dog. Nigel gives off such a calm/chill vibe - he really is a big cuddly softy!

Nigel likes to go to paddock also, he has a sniff around and then likes to come with you and lay his head in your lap.

If you’re a big dog lover and are looking for a cuddly dog who is chunky, calm, sweet & soppy, then this boy is for you xx

Oh Nigel, what a hench hunk you are 💕
Nigel walks well and loves to have a good sniff, he’s very calm and great to walk.

After our walk and when I put Nigel back in his kennel he had a beautiful smile on his face, gave me his paw and got a little amorous but that soon stopped after I said ✋🛑

My daughter's choice of birthday treat was to take one of the lovely dogs out for a nice walk and lunch and as she does like the larger breeds we thought Nigel would fit the bill.

Nigel was very pleased to see us and was fairly easy to harness just very excited roflmao.gif . He jumped in the car fine and enjoyed putting his head out the window to see where we were going.

We decided to go for a nice walk across the hills in Chaldon, Nigel walks at a good pace, if there are people in front he does pull to keep up with them, this helped going up the hill as it gave me a bit of momentum.

We didn’t pass any dogs close to us so not sure what he is like, but didn’t seem overly interested at those in the distance.

When we sat for a pub lunch he did lie down for a bit but then started to jump up at me and got a bit humpy, I am sure this would settle as it was somewhere new and exciting, with lots of food and new people but you do need to distract him and move him on. He did understand basic commands, sit, lie and paw so has had some training and is eager to please, just a little over enthusiastic at times.

Nigel is a very sweet dog who loves human attention and walks well on the lead, after the initial excitement he does settle and lie on the floor. I am sure with all the love he will get at the kennels he will become a favourite.

I took Nigel out again today and he did his usual plod and sniff around the woods, often stopping to nibble at the salad bar! 🌳 🥬🍃
There may have been something in the air today because Nigel took to hugging my leg quite a bit 🫣😳
Overall a lovely big cuddly boy 🐾
