I knew within the first 5 minutes of Henry being at home that whoever adopted him would be getting a lap dog, although not a Velcro dog.
He will come to you when he wants something. He is quite communicative. I know when he wants to go to the toilet (he’s not gone in the house..yet!) and when he wants attention.. and when he wants a treat because he’ll keep looking in the kitchen..
He is so communicative in fact, I thought he was unsettled.. he kept looking upstairs? So I thought let’s go up and see if he follows.. straight on my bed! He wanted another nap on there (he was my little spoon during the night!) So I sat with him whilst he slept and I read my book.
He is not stuck to you at all times, but he has followed me everywhere, I can imagine a lot of shelter doggies may get some separation anxiety, which I haven’t seen because I haven’t needed to leave the house other than with him. But yes, I have a little shadow every where I go, so I hope his new owner will give him time to adjust when it comes to leaving him alone for some time. I can’t imagine he would be destructive as he is a very lazy and chilled boy, but I do feel like he doesn’t want to be alone.
Because of the time of day I’ve been walking him due to the heat, we’ve not really crossed many dogs/other people, but he did have a bark at a spaniel. He’s a bit selective as he’s unbothered by some dogs and bothered by others. Henry walks with such a slack lead, most the time I have to hold it up so it doesn’t tangle in his paws.
I bought some squirty cream for an at home pup cup, he thoroughly enjoyed it as a treat. Henry will automatically sit for treats most of the time.
He’s been very sweet with his toys, he chews and plays but so far hasn’t destroyed them. He also enjoys a short game of tug.. update: more interested in snuffle/kong type toys
The only noise I’ve heard from him is once when my mail was delivered, he hasn’t barked at all apart from that, most of the noise from him has come out of the other end
