Current Status: Available
Leon's Story: Leon was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Northern council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Leon will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Leon came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Leon's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: Leon was losing his life. The pound pullers fundraised and are going to cover 1 month's kennels until we can take him so he is safe! Leon came into RescueRemedies on the 30th April 25.

Leon arrived this lunchtime. He is a very young lad just over the year I would suggest. Busy, keen and friendly. A little unsure but readily takes assurance.
90% English Bull Terrier but the other 10% gives him agility, fluidity and slight build. Leon is much smaller than I had thought, he is slightly taller than a male Staffie size. Welcome Leon!

I grabbed the chance today of giving the two new boys (Pluto and Leon) their first proper walk since arriving at the Rescue yesterday.
Leon is a striking boy, with youthful energy but already showing signs of how nicely he will mature. Read on!
Leon greeted me well and took my sausage treats calmly when I approached his kennel for our first meet. Once inside with him, he did get a little excited about the prospect of going out (and who can blame him!) and it took a few moments to fit his harness and clip my leads on. While I attempted to do so, he wriggled around and gently mouthed my forearm as I reached over to his torso, but there was no malicious intent and I think he just found it a bit of fun more than anything else!
Once clear of the hustle and bustle, he fundamentally walked very well - don't forget that he only arrived with us yesterday and he's still no doubt wondering where he is and why. At times he seemed a little unsure; at others perfectly content and walked perfectly (see the video below). He strikes me as simply being a little inexperienced and needing a some reassurance and encouragement just at the moment.
Ultimately, Leon is a sweetie and I look forward to helping him adjust to his current situation, which I have no doubt he will do very soon.
More information in my commentary in the following video!

I walked Leon on Thursday. Although he was very excited to have attention, Max was outside with sausage while I attached the leads. Off we went, although he was a bit tentative about leaving the grounds. He walked in front generally, but no pull, and lots of stops. Leon tried jumping up once, but a firm NO worked. He sat beautifully for treats. He seems non-reactive with other dogs, and ignores traffic. On returning to the kennels I gave him a piece of pigs ear between the outer gate and his kennel, and that kept him occupied whilst I took the leads off and exited. Sweet boy.

I had another lovely time with Leon yesterday. We started in the big paddock, and I was throwing a tennis ball for him. He would collect the ball and bring it back to me, either dropping it at my feet or putting it in my hand. After 8 or 10 retrievals he got bored of that game, and after a wander around the paddock, he decided I would be the best toy!!! Time for a walk, which was slow with lots of sniffing. As long as we kept the energy low, and Leon didn’t get excited, he was an absolute poppet and easy to manage. I think he would really enjoy following another dog. No problem returning to his kennel with part of a pigs ear as distraction. xx

First walk with this little chappy today, I gave him long lasting chew when entering his kennel, leads and harness straight on and off we went with Leon carrying his chew. We headed into the woods where Leon plodded along taking in all the smells! Passed dogs/people well and waits to let others pass when told. Half way round keepers Leon did hump me, then grabbed the leads, but stopped when his attention was refocused for some cuddles and a passing by jogger. Leon does know basic commands, listens, looks for reassurance while he's gaining his confidence and was marching along happily further into the walk
Leon is a lovely boy who's full of personality. Returned into his kennel fine

What a lovely video and choice of song for this super little boy, only one step up from a baby really, he is always so pleased to see you

I have the pleasure of a lovely walk with little Leon today. Geoff kindly stood outside the kennel on sausage duty while I harnessed Leon and clipped the leads on and off we went.
It was a very eventless walk with lots of sniffs for Leon. He seemed relaxed and happy to be out. I'm looking forward to getting to know him more.

I had another lovely walk with this little pocket rocket today. He was a very good boy following kobi round the charity walk. He enjoyed some sniffs and happy trotting along in front and behind. He was none reactive to cars, barking dogs and bikes. He took everything in his stride. What a smashing little lad.
