Current Status: Available
Bear's Story: Bear was found abandoned and unclaimed within a council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Bear is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Bear came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Bear's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust. Original referral information: We were asked to save Bear's life..it was close but a member of public is paying for emergency kennelling to make him safe

Max welcoming Bear into our Rescue yesterday. He is a kind, lovely BEAR

I had the pleasure of walking this gentleman on friday, very chilled and walks along quite happily next to you

I had the honour of walking Bear yesterday, he was easy to harness and paid no attention to the other dogs barking around him. He walks really calmly, stopping to sniff every so often, he waits for you to come down steps a proper gentleman. He is not treat oriented but likes a good fuss, I’ve added him to my list for next week but hopefully he find his home soon.

I was lucky again to be able to walk Bear, as it was a warm day I decided to walk him first before it got too hot. Again he was easy to harness and get my leads clipped on so we were out quite quickly. We had a lovely walk just the 2 of us but caught up with another group from the kennels where he settled in behind them happy to follow. I’d said to the others that he wasn’t treat oriented but when we got back to the kennels one of the other walkers suggested cheese - this went down very well so I will need to remember to get some for my next walk with him. He really is a lovely gentleman to walk

I had my first walk with the gorgeous aptly named cuddly ‘Bear’ today, and what a treat it was.
He was easy to harness and attach his leads, though I just had to give him a cuddle first - his rules!
He was a dream to walk, the only time he pulled slightly was when there were two other Akitas ahead of us on the footpath, but this was totally manageable. What a gorgeous cuddly big bear he is. I hope to walk him again soon, if he doesn’t get snapped up and homed before I get a chance.

Bear with a sore tooth...NOT ANY MORE!!!!!!!! Bear was neutered last week and even though our vets give our animals the full once over whilst they are under GenAn I specifically asked for them to check his ears and mouth. Suddenly I hear Bear isn't ready for collection yet as he has had a local session with our Vet taking several hours to get a rotten and stubborn 3 forked molar out. His vet finished his op. to go straight into consultations and missed lunch opps
I think the neutering became the least of his concerns and he has been on soft food since and healing well. He won't look back now

First walk with Bear yesterday and – wow – we’re both in love with this beautiful teddy bear! He walked so gently that I forgot he was at the other end of the lead. After the walk, we spent some time in the blue paddock and after investigating his surroundings, he came over for some fuss – he loves a bum scratch!
Re: Bear Akita x DofB 03.02.17 New Malden Temp Foster
We brought the irresistible Bear home with us for a foster break on Friday. As you’ll see from the photos he was more than keen to come along and was even prepared to drive himself
. We explained to him that Chris was ready to drive us home, so he settled in the back seat and enjoyed watching the world go by for the entire journey - about 1 hour.
He’s a real softy and loves cuddles. He particularly adores a bit of a brush and gives his belly for more. He has been amazing on walks and plods along gently and takes in all the sniffs around. We’ve passed other dogs albeit across the road and he was not reactive at all. One dog got very shouty at him and Bear just nonchalantly carried on walking. What a star!
There have been no accidents in the house and we can safely say he’s toilet trained. He’s not guardy of his food or toys. He can do stairs too. He slept throughout the night in his bed next to our bed in our room.
