Maxy's Story: Maxy was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Yorkshire council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Maxy is now neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Maxy came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Maxy's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: Hi I am a Dog Warden in Yorkshire and desperately looking for rescue spaces for two of my dogs that have now been in kennels since early-mid December and every rescue I've approached is full. They are now at risk and face being put to sleep if we can’t move them quickly.

Maxy is a 3 year old American Bulldog who has been with us since 10th December. Yesterday he was castrated and also had most of his tail amputated due to constantly wagging it in kennels and he'd popped the end of it.

Maxy adores human company, but is well mannered and not boisterous when he greets you. He is strong on a lead so will require some further training, but in the right hands he will make a fantastic companion. He has been assessed with a female dog and was absolutely fine. He tends to be vocal sometimes with dogs but he’s not aggressive, he’s just very enthusiastic to say hello!

If you can help it would be much appreciated and a life line for this fantastic dog! Thank you, Nx Dog Warden

Magnificant Maxy.

Settling down in kennels. He arrived with half a tail which was amputated about 7 days prior. Sadly his stump wasn't healing. Yesterday our vet removed more tail so he now has the traditional 'boxer stump'. Maxy doesn't trouble his tail but is still wearing a buster collar. We are confident this time it will heal well. He also had his 1st vaccination. So easy to manage, handle and our Vets were so impressed. Such a lovely boy what is there not to love!

I walked Maxy for the first time today and what a great dog he is. Super people friendly and lovely to walk. We went out with a couple of other dogs and even though he was excited to greet them at first he showed no signs of reactivity or aggression. Maxy is a big dog but easy to walk on the lead. He knows lots of basic commands and sits when asked. He’s going to be a great companion to a family.

Maxy is a sweet, quiet, adorable soul, who would fit straight into a loving home

Maxy and I took a walk down to the village and back.  He is a very easy dog: Pleased to see me, calm in his kennel, easy to harness, walks on a loose lead, interested in his surroundings but didn't react to anything we passed (e.g traffic, people, dogs, etc.), responds really well to cues (e.g. wait/let's go), didn't mind being touched.

Maxy also has beautiful eyes which will melt your heart and convince you to give him all the treats in the world!

Looking forward to our next walk (if he isn't snapped up for adoption by a clever person first!).

Love at first sight love4.gif . My first walk with this beautiful dog. He was so welcoming on entering her kennel. No problem at with the harness and walks lovely, as though you’ve walked him for a long time. Very relaxed on the lead and when trying to cross the road, Maxy will wait patiently and then sits down very close you waiting for to tell him it’s ok to cross. Just love him (I may of said that already). Loves a good amount of affection and I’m sure he’ll be in a new home soon. Can’t wait to walk him again 💖

I met Maxy at the Charity Walk on Sunday. Wow, what a wonderful dog! Very calm and well behaved and incredibly friendly.
