Odie's Story: Odie was found abandoned and unclaimed within East Anglia pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Odie will be neutered by receiving family when old enough, is now chipped, and fully vaccinated. Odie came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Original referral information: Call came in to help Odie from a pound but not coping being in a flat without a garden and fosterer's back condition was restricting his walks

Odie came into RescueRemedies on the 20th January 25

Odie is a young, friendly, happy boy who was delighted to be going for a walk. Although underweight at the moment, he is quite strong and pulls towards the next stopping point on the walk. He stops regularly, but seems to be on a mission in between. He seems keen to learn and I think we could train him not to pull. He was interested in other dogs (friendly), and likes people, other than one passer-by that he took exception to!

Well having taken Odie in as an emergency and told he was a 18 months old Dobie, I was reeling to understand his energy, skill set and small size, 27 kilos...quizzed with all the knowledge I have with Dobies. I should have trusted my own judgement sooner. Today, my head spinning I went back to the Rescue we took Odie in from with the simple question: Odie wasn't chipped when we took him in, how did the pound know his age? Was Odie a surrender? "No stray, they guessed his age". Ahhah! "We thought he was younger"! Ahhah!

Let strip this back what I am witnessing is a 6 month pup, if not 5 month pup. He has to grow up, and grow up I'm sure he will. I have never met such a small adult Dodie before, hence I erring on 5 month pup obviously thrown out of his home for his gangly uncoordinated energy. Bought from some breeder who failed to chip him despite his obvious pedigree credentials.

Odie is a joy... full of gusto and get up and go! Odie needs lots of volunteers giving him time and support to explore life, and learn to live beside other dogs, traffic, busy places and a variety of environs. Delightful pup: Too eager to please: Too eager to run and trot and play. Trying to get his growth spurt challenge, adjusted inside his brain and sensory feedback.

On Monday I thought it was time to do a little training with young Odie. He is very good at sitting, and even offered me a paw sometimes (his idea). We spent some time attempting to walk at heel and stop pulling. We then went for a long walk, and Odie was much better at walking by the end. He is a happy little soul, and is very willing to learn.

Here are some pictures of young Odie walking with Lloyd. He’s a young dog with a lot of learning to do but I believe with the right care and support he will be a fab pet.

Breeze and I had a lovely walk yesterday with Odie and Purdey.

They all walked well together, we encounter a few groups of horse riders on our walk and we were able to keep their focus while they passed, I’m so proud of them.

Odie and I had a lovely walk in the sun yesterday with Kobi, Nero and Austin ♥️.

Odie is making good progress and likes to walk in a group, but can be nervious with dogs and people approaching us, but has improved so much already.

Odie is strong on the leads, but he is improving.

He is such a friendly and lovely boy ♥️

Domino and I had a lovely walk in the sun with Odie and Geoff.

They walked really well together and enjoyed each others company.

Odie is doing so well and is quickly winning the hearts of his walkers ♥️.

Odie and I have been going for walks regularly in the last few weeks. He’s a strong dog, who is very keen to get out on his walks. He wears a muzzle because he can find somethings a bit too much on walks and now sits by the kennel gate waiting for the muzzle to go on for his walk. He is full of beans leaving his kennel and pulls a lot but is starting to sniff, to look and engage with his surroundings. We are working on slowing down everything and hopefully him learning his name, I think this would help a lot.
He’s a gorgeous boy who needs a lot of love, support and guidance to become the loving companion I’m sure he can be.
Any Doberman lovers out there looking for a young dog who needs care and attention then Odie is your boy!
