Scruffy's Story: Scruffy lost his home when his owner lost theirs. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Scruffy will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Scruffy came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Scruffy's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: We were asked to take Scruffy in as emergency when his owner was evicted.
Scruffy came into RescueRemedies on the 23rd January 25

I have walked Scruffy twice now and I really like him. He doesn't seem to have had much experience of walking on a lead because he is all over the shop zigzagging from one exciting scent to the next. He also isn't used to traffic so will need careful introduction to walking near roads. He is certainly worth the effort and obviously enjoys being out walking. I am sure with time and patience he will quickly settle.

So I took little Scruffy out for a short walk yesterday. He is a very sweet dog, excited to meet you in the kennel and keen to get out and explore the world. He is very busy on the lead and full of beans but nothing that won’t settle with consistency and training.
He is gentle when taking snacks but doesn’t seem to have had much training with regards to his name or simple things like ‘sit’.
I hope to take him out a bit more in the next couple of weeks and try and introduce him to the world in a safe way.

Scruffy came home for the afternoon and what a delight he was. He was super excited on first greeting and then we had the challenge of getting him into the car. He is currently quite fearful so lifting him in is the solution. Once in the car, he was quiet and coped well with the 20 minute journey. Once inside the home he explored a little but stayed by my side mostly, jumped up on the sofa and just wanted lots of affection.
We went on a long walk to and around Tilgate park and he was very well behaved. He greeted other dogs and people well. Scruffy does like to walk at a fast pace which means he does pull a little, but nothing that a little training couldn’t correct! He listens very well to his name and will come over to you when you call him. He knows sit and paw too! Once home, we washed his paws which he didn’t love but tolerated fine. We then chilled on the sofa and Scruffy snuggled right up next to us and fell asleep.
It is evident that Scruffy has been extremely well loved and equally he loves so much too. I know for a fact that he will make the best companion as he is just so loving and sweet. He is definitely welcome back again soon, but I’m sure his forever home is close by!
