Luna and Kenshi's Story: Luna and Kenshi were surrendered into a pound and were on imminent PTS list when we were alerted. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving them life. Luna and Kenshi will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Luna and Kenshi came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting their new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Had the pleasure of meeting this pair today, wow! 🤩
Luna is so laid back, calm, collected. She was so gentle on her walk, slack leads right by your side and taking in all the smells.
Kenshi is bouncier and more energetic, he zig zags his way to and fro between the smells, making sure he doesn’t miss one on either side! However, he is still so gentle, he was on the end of the lead but no real pull! He definitely has a more playful side, when Luna would catch up behind him he’d pounce to play! 😂

We walked with Duke and Roxy, and all were polite! Kenshi showed interest in them and other passing dogs/people, but no reactivity from him or Luna.

I can see these two being very popular 😍

Had the absolute pleasure of meeting and then walking Luna and her room mate Kenshi as they helped me with a supported walk for one of our new volunteers. Firstly they are both very friendly. Luna (the larger of the two) stood up and gave me a full, and very gentle, body hug, she is like a large teddy bear :yes.gif: . There was much excitement at the prospect of going out but even so they were very good at standing and allowing us to put harnesses on them. Out walking Luna does not pull at all, she is a dream to walk. Both of them were happily interested in the other dogs we met and showed no reaction other than an increased interest in their direction and a waggy tail. Don't seem bothered by the mud, which is fortunate as there is so much around at the moment, but we did try to avoid it where possible, I suspect they might both be water babies, puddles were obviously nectar to drink from 0002.gif] . Absolutely lovely girl and hope I am lucky enough to walk her again love4.gif Kenshi was just as friendly, pulled a little more on the lead, but not hugely and it was general excitement of which side shall I sniff first!! A really delightful pair.

Had the pleasure of taking lovely Luna and Kenshi out for independent walks this morning. Both were excited to greet me with full body hugs but very gentle.

Luna was a dream to walk. Very gentle and patient. Loves a pee and a flick of the mud 😂

Kenshi is smaller of the pair but much more energetic. I got to see the infamous zig zag walk across the path! 😄

There was a tree down across the path on the route I took. Funny to see how each of them handled it... Luna was cautious and went underneath only once I was on the other side, Kenshi went to leap straight over it 😂 Both checked with me to make sure they were doing the right thing - Very sweet pups 😊 Hope they find a lovely home soon!

Luna and Kenshi are the gentlest of dogs and helped me introduce a pair of new walkers to the rescue on Tuesday. The new walkers are considerably younger than me (I don't run!!) and I was so surprised to see how beautifully Luna moved when she and her walker ran to catch up with Kenshi and his walker after they had lagged behind a bit whilst she was sniffing. She has such a fluffy coat and she is so happy to walk at a measured pace that it was a real revelation to see her happily running and with beautiful motion too thumbs.gif , tail up and obviously enjoying it, way to go Luna xx 0077.gif

On arrival 6 weeks ago Luna and her ?son Kenshi caused me and our vet grief. The kennel staff have been worried about them and trying to make sense as to whether they had underlying health issues. Luna when she came would struggle to get out of her bed and occasionally wee in her bed due to her stationary stance. Kenshi lacked lustre and his eyes were vacant; he drank a lot. They had a hacking cough. Putting them before our vet we ran blood tests on these 2 and an elderly neglected American Bulldog who had just just arrived into us also, Mavis. I went for a coffee to return for the outcome. Mavis and Luna's blood were all within normal range. Kenshi our vet was concerned about. He showed signs of a low protein/ potassium profile wasn't right and a minor heart murmur. She felt he was too small for an adult Akita, i.e. stunted growth, and wanted to run new bloods in several weeks time once he had got through his challenging cough. Kenshi had an undescended testicle so quite an involved op ahead for him.

We moved them both into house so they had a large room and I would be responsible for their food and care. Their cough gradually improved and when we returned to the vet they were both well enough for their 1st vaccination. Bloods were ran on Kenshi and there was defo improvement. He had stopped excessive drinking and his cough had improved but was still present. Our vet picked up a distinctive smell with Luna and we had noticed Luna was referencing her vulva area quite a lot. We wondered if she was coming into season. I would keep watch. The pound had been unimpressed by the Scxx bxx who had dropped them off, with total disregard to their plight being unlikely to get a Rescue place. He said they had never been to a vet.

Last week we decided to neuter them both: Kenshi's energy had dramatically improved. He had become playful, engaged, keenly observant in his surroundings and improved appetite, putting on weight. Luna seemed brighter and was managing to cope with Kenshi's insistent interaction attempts, she was behaving like the mother, with her tolerance. Monday morning, the 20th, our vets called and asked had they been fed yet and if not can I bring them in for neuter. We jumped in the dog mobile.

Since neutering Kenshi has retained his enthusiasm for life and Luna after a day post neuter has gradually improved and instead of coaxing her out of her bed as I was 2 weeks ago is waiting at the door ready for paddock time.

I can only think treating them with a serious antibiotic has lifted any infection away in their lungs and elsewhere. We always offer our dogs good quality food and we have seen their appetites improve; they are now waiting for their food and finishing their bowls.

So happy days: Really pleased with this couple's health improvement and what a wonderful couple they are. They would suit most families. They are undemanding and soft. They seek affection and lick you on greeting.

Anne walks them regularly and I'm sure will take new photos and the contrast will be clear in their eyes and fur and stance.
