Roxy's Story: Roxy has been formally retired. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place. Roxy is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Roxy came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Roxy came with me to our charity campaign at Pets at Home. She was a perfect ambassador for Rescue Remedies - everyone remarked how calm and gentle she was (even when she noticed the guinea pigs!). She took everything in her elegant stride, all the more impressive since she’s spent her life till now in racing kennels.
She’s a smaller greyhound, and has the softest fur. She liked to lean against me for strokes, and was also partial to treats.

I should probably start by saying that Roxy and Duke don’t have to be homed together.

Both Roxy and Duke have adjusted amazingly well in a home environment.
They’ve learnt how to do the stairs, they’ve overcome their suspicions around what a television might be and they’ve given up on trying to take our food - you can’t blame them for not knowing the rules as Greyhound’s have mostly spent their lives in a kennel environment.
They’ve overcome the menacing wheelie bin etc.
we’re working on the tumble dryer and vacuum at the moment.

These two beautiful dogs are like my shadow but can happily be left alone for short periods of time so far and this can be built up over time, as with any rescue pup.

They are both fantastic with our two children and love having a little cuddle time with anyone.

Roxy is one of the smallest Greyhound’s I’ve come across, she’s whippet size really.
Roxy is cheeky and very playful, she’s confident and likes to tell Duke she’s the boss but she can also be a little scared of very loud noises.
When Roxy is very excited she loves to spin and rub her thighs across your legs (almost as if she’s a cat!).
Roxy also walks really well on the lead, she’s bound to be a companion for wherever you want to go.

Duke is a silver fox! He’s so handsome and such a gentleman, he loves to rest his head on your lap for a cuddle.

Duke is so polite with Roxy, he doesn’t care how much she pushes him out of the way or if she finishes his dinner, he will let her do whatever she wants to.
Duke is slightly stronger on the lead when you first go for a walk but then he calms down.

Both of these beauties have given us endless giggles over their first week with us and I really hope someone sees in them what we do.

Roxy is the smaller darker Greyhound.
Duke is the larger silver faced Greyhound.

Thank you Dimple - it is so lovely to see your love for this wonderful breed of dog. You give the greyhounds in your foster care such quality time, comfort and care and hopefully with your highlighting them as you do their forever homes will be just around the corner.

Roxy helped me out yesterday with a new walker by offering her services on a supported walk. She helpfully showed us her harness (seems she got it wrong and it was probably Duke's harness as it seemed somewhat big on her, but we tightened it up and all was good 0002.gif] ), she is a very gentle girl, not at all bothered by cars or other dogs. but quite interested in a squirrel we saw flaunting itself in front of us :heidy.gif: , she didn't try to pursue it though when it danced away from us. She is such a good girl, when she shook her head and her muzzle fell off (I tightened the harness but obviously not the muzzle :doh.gif: ) she waited patiently whilst I fiddled around with it and replaced it. I am absolutely awed by the greyhounds we have had in the rescue, they have all been such gentle creatures. Roxy is carrying on the tradition, total sweetheart love4.gif

Roxy met a new walker today and was a superstar
Jane got Roxy’s harness and muzzle on with absolute ease Roxy stood so patiently
We had a wander round the grounds then down the lane then off to the paddock where she saw Ralph and I think she thought he was a rabbit so was very excited
Back to their kennels for a few treats
Thank you Roxy be being such a good girl

Roxy and Duke have been on a few foster breaks with us now. Each time they come to us they settle straight back into our routine - Greyhound’s are just so laid back and easy, and yet full of affection and love.

Roxy feels comfortable enough to take herself upstairs to bed whilst Duke likes to hang out near you.

Separation training is going very well, they’ve been left for up to 1-hour so far with the radio on and were very happy to sleep.

Roxy and Duke don’t need to be homed together at all but they are so wonderful as a pair because they get on so well - I can even walk them on a lead splitter very easily.

Roxy is the smaller darker girl and Duke is the taller grey/distinguished boy.
