Mavis' Story: Mavis was found abandoned and unclaimed within Northern pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Mavis will be neutered, chipped, and is now fully vacinayted. Mavis came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick then went into foster whilst awaiting her new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Mavis' progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Re: Mavis AmBulldog DofB 2013? RRemedies Centre
Mavis just feeling her feet as she was out for her daily walk with the Staff.
Re: Mavis AmBulldog DofB 2013? RRemedies Centre
I walked Mavis today. What a lovely, gentle lady. We went for a long walk, met several dogs without problems, and enjoyed scents and sights.
There were no issues at all.

I took the wonderful Mavis for a stroll yesterday. She is a little nervous in the kennel and does bark at you but was very quickly won over with a treat. We then went for a potter in the woods, she takes her time and sniffs away and only gave passing dogs a glance before carrying on walking. She does limp so we kept the walk short.
This lovely old girl needs a comfy sofa and warm home to call her own. She’s too old to be sleeping in a kennel

From our Xmas charity walk volunteer:
Very strong but a sweetheart stops when you stop and doesn’t pull cross paths with a lot of other dogs but completely non-reactive a joy to walk.

Sweet girl that tugged at my heartstrings a lot more than I expected!! A little barky in her kennel, but once in she was okay for me to put leads on. She was strong coming out, but actually once out plodded along quite happily with Sully following. She has a wee sore foot at the moment so we didn’t go far, but she warmed up a lot even on our short walk and took lots of treats very gently. She has big soulful eyes and I think she will have a lot of love and loyalty to give once she finds her people. Her notes below say she has a few lumps and bumps, and she is still skinny. At her age, she really needs a warm cosy retirement home to relax in after god knows what she’s been through.

Oh gosh, Mavis will pull on all heart strings, she’s a frail old girl who must’ve been stunningly strong and beautiful in her youth. She’s barky in the kennel but when she’s out there’s nothing about her not to like. She’s not reactive to dogs or humans (so far) walks well on the lead but does look tired, a bit limpy and has some nasty looking lumps on her.
This wonderful old girl has clearly had a tough life and so needs to find a warm, safe and loving place to rest and see out the sunset of her life in.
I so hope someone sees beyond her barks and takes her to their warm home soon.

Re: Mavis AmBulldog DofB 2013? Fareham Foster
Mavis won the lottery today. Steve and Suzie and their daughter Lillie wanted to help a dog in need and stepped forwards for Mavis offering her a permanent foster place. Mavis will treasure the hoe coming after many months in winter kennels.
She jumped in the car and here is Steve preparing her for the off. She has all her belongings ready for her spay and lump removal on Thursday via our senior Vet.

Fantastic news...Fareham is just up the road from me

Mavis was operated on on Thursday 23rd January by our senior vet Mark. He spayed her, removed her 2 lumps one on her back and one on her foot. Mark also X-rayed her left back leg and declared her issue was ligamental: He is not going to operate at her age. Mavis uses the leg in walking, sits down and lays down without displaying discomfort. Her ears were checked and they are fine.
Mavis is getting the best attention and care from her attendant fosterers who will be along soon to tell us how she is doing.
