Digby's Story: Digby and his partner Layla were taken in on welfare grounds. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Digby is now neutered, chipped, and is fully vaccinated. Digby came to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Hi Lynne

You’ve kindly helped us/Sheffield council strays in the past, and I am so sorry to ask for your help here as I know how busy you are, but we are totally out of options for a beautiful pair of Lurchers who are currently in kennels and desperately needing a safe rescue space - we have been given 1 week max to find them somewhere, and so far over 20 rescues have said no/not replied.
Digby and Layla came into RescueRemedies on the 23rd November 24

Met Digby and kennel mate Layla on Wednesday where I took them for a quick walk both very sweet and easy to walk
On Thursday Scot took Digby and I took Layla for the full tour around the woods
Digby is bigger than Layla but so cute and friendly
Extremely gentle on the lead and looks for reassurance
Such a sweet boy definitely won’t be with us long Kiss of love.gif

I took the lovely Digby to Pets at Home yesterday.
On the way in the car he settled down syraight away and didn't make a sound on the journey.
He attracted a lot of attention in store and was very well behaved. Saying hello nicely to several dogs. He did jump up when a couple of people said hello to him so needs to hide his excitement better but he was very gentle with the little people who said hello.
A little grumble at King when he arrived but nothing in particular and quickly stopped when asked.
Lovely boy who I hope will not be with us too long Kiss of love.gif
Here he is with Corinne...

The lovely Digby has come to stay with us and has already settled right in. Digby is a gentle soul who is at his happiest when lying across several people on the sofa. He nuzzles in for lots of cuddles and just adores human company.

We picked up Digby from the emergency kennels and he was happy to jump straight in the car and get going. He travelled well in the car and wasn't bothered being with new people, in fact we got a lovely reception. At home he is clean in the house, and sleeps on the end of my daughters bed at night. He has met lots of people of all ages from the very little, to the more mature 😄and has been an absolute star with them all. He makes a positive impression instantly, and is gentle taking treats, letting go of his balls and lying down for a cuddle.

In the garden he loves to run around, and will also play with the ball, he will chase after it, but doesn't bring it back, so it can be a bit of a one sided game.

Digby is interested in everything you are doing, when I was looking at the Rescue Remedies website, he was having a good look at the computer making it very difficult to type. Not sure if he recognised some of his neighbours from the kennels, but it was quite comical.

He enjoys going for a walk and will happily plod along, he meets other dogs well and enjoys a sniff before moving on, today he was surrounded by a few out of nowhere, but was fine. The only time he is particularly strong is if he spots a squirrel and pulls towards it, but he is easily distracted and moves on quickly. We took him to Sheffield Park and did the snowman trail which he seemed to enjoy, followed by a stop at the cafe. He is very interested in food, and if you leave something unattended, there is no guarantee it will be there when you get back 0002.gif] , also best not to leave food out on the side if the door is open. He does try to sniff your plate but if you tell him to lie down he will. When given a treat, he is very gentle and especially likes a big chew that takes him a while to get through.

Digby is one of those dogs who comes in ready for his new home, ready to share lots of love and joy with a new family. We fell in love instantly, and are pleased we have the opportunity to have him stay with us longer than we originally planned. I hope those applications come in soon, because someone will be very lucky to have him, he is a gorgeous boy.

We just couldn’t resist keeping Digby for a bit longer, and so were thrilled that we could have him stay over Christmas as he is a wonderful house guest.

Digby is home ready, he settled immediately in to family life, is house trained and was good with everyone. Digby loves to be around people and despite those long legs manages to squeeze in for a cuddle on any sofa, burrowing his head or stretching out across everyone roflmao.gif .

He does love his food, and other peoples, if you leave the kitchen door open he will counter surf, and dig through the bins! He is also interested when you are eating, but you can get him to sit, otherwise he will rest his head on your leg, or the table and look longingly at the plate.

Digby walks well on the lead and loves exploring. He will pull a bit if he spots a squirrel but is easy to move on. He meets other dogs well but if they are over enthusiastic he may growl to let them know he doesn’t want to play or will just avoid them.

He loves meeting new people and will go straight in for a cuddle and back scratch. He will charge around the garden given the opportunity or play ball. He can jump high so good fencing is a must or I am sure he would go off exploring.

Digby is such a lovely placid boy who is at his happiest when around people getting lots of fuss. He slept on the end of my daughter’s bed through the night, enjoyed long walks and met lots of different people throughout the Christmas period. He managed all the chaos and different situations well and is more than ready for his forever home, I hope it comes soon.

I had the pleasure of walking Digby for the first time yesterday and he is a lovely gentle soul who walks beautifully taking an interest in everything. Digby wasn't bothered by other dogs we met or the busy road we walked along.

Naomi and I took Digby to see Susan and her lovely dog Thandi. We went for a walk across the amazing countryside that is just on the doorstep, and Digby showed what a wonderful boy he is. He walked next to us, giving Thandi space to get used to him and although she knew he was there, apart from the occasional sniff, she left him alone.

Back at the house, Digby made himself at home, going straight to the water bowl and getting himself a drink, then exploring having a good sniff and enjoying the treats Susan had for him.

When the decision was made that Digby had found his forever people, there were tears of joy, it was a very special moment.

It is always a privilege to spend time with these wonderful dogs and then see them go off into homes where we know they will be loved and cherished. Digby is going to be spoilt rotten, enjoy holidays in the caravan and long glorious walks. Be happy all Kiss of love.gif
