Rose's Story: Rose has lived with her family but they have changed accommodation and the new landlord will not allow pets. She is currently living in a van whilst the try to find her a Rescue place. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Rose is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Rose came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Rose's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: 3.11.24: Call today from a family at their wits end as they have nowhere for their dog and she is forced to live in a van. (Broke my heart)

I met the absolutely gorgeous Rose today, I don’t often walk smaller dogs but she has made me think I should start to. Friendly, bright, active and inquisitive, happy to meet a v large dog through the fence line with no issues. She was very good and let me change her harness in the kennel straight after we met and then happily went out for a walk with me. She chased the ball, responded to her name and generally was a little superstar. She was very sad when I had to take her back so I sat with her for a while on our return. This little lady needs a new home soon where she can relax and feel safe again.

Thank you Claire; Rose is a sweetheart

She was thoroughly checked over by our Vet on the day after she arrived. She is in very good health for an 8 yr old girl. She had her first vaccination. We decided to clip her claws whilst she is under Gen An when we spay her in the next 2 weeks.

Easy to walk her spaniel genetics are plan with her noise to the ground. Alert to surroundings and the charm of her Patterdale heritage is equally obvious. Very easy to handle and settling well into the kennel environment. So pleased we stuck our necks out to bring her in.

I was so pleased to meet Rose today. She’s friendly, full of life and positive energy, loved chasing balls and trotted like she could walk all day. What a little charmer!

Rose was my kennel buddy for our kennel sleepover fundraiser. Bearing in mind she had never walked with me, only said hello to and a treat over the proceeding week (my potential buddy found a wonderful forever sofa❤️).

So...... curious, calm, wanting a tummy rub, accepting, gentle, and I had to give her a good night kiss on top of her head.

If I was able to adopt and thinking of a terrier, Rose would be right up there. I have no doubt she will have terrier ways and you would have to terrier proof your garden, they are pocket rocket Houdini's. But what a lady. I can't wait to be added to her walkers rota.

We had little Rose to stay with us for a few days last week, and she is a real bundle of joy. Don't be fooled by her age, she has the energy of a puppy and is constantly on the go, it must be the mix of spaniel and terrier 0002.gif]

Rose loves to keep busy and is constantly exploring, putting her nose in to things, finding balls and other long lost items eager to play. She will happily go on long walks, but is a bit of a puller on the lead in her eagerness to get everywhere fast. Generally she is ok with other dogs, she did have a snap and growl when we passed one in the alleyway but suspect this was because it was a more confined space, otherwise it is fairly easy to pass and keep her moving.

She is clean and dry in the house but can get distracted by noises. We have a bearded dragon that she was particularly interested in when it moved, and she jumped up at the glass trying to get in. She settles well overnight and slept on the end of our bed without really moving until it was time to get up.

She travels ok in the car, but given the chance she would explore and move around, so it is important to make sure she is securely plugged in. She does like to look out of the window and watch everything go by, as well as get on the floor and retrieve any crumb that might have been lost.

Rose is a lovely girl, who like a typical terrier is very busy and always finds herself something to do. She would make a lovely companion and has lots of love to give. Hopefully this gives you an idea of just what a character she is.

I’ve walked Rose twice now and she’s a lovely little dog, first time I met her I had to sort out her surgical suit and the second time I was faffing about putting a coat on her and she was very patient both times.

She loves a good sniff in the paddock and finding sticks much bigger than her! She walks okay on the lead but is full of energy and can pull if she’s on a sniffing mission, she’s small enough that this is very manageable.

Rose came for a long walk and home with me for a couple of hours. She got along well with my dog on the walk sharing lots of sniffs, competing to be at the front but mainly ignoring each other. She’s a confident dog and wasn’t phased at all about the strong wind, cars, noises in the home etc. At one point she had a great time rolling around on her back in the grass.

She does cry/whimper a little in the car (only did short journeys so she may settle after a while) but in general stayed quite calm.

She let me bath her after the walk as she was super muddy. This may have contributed to her being quite over stimulated, not one part of my house hasn’t been sniffed by her 0002.gif] and she couldn’t settle even with a pizzle stick. My boyfriend took my dog upstairs to see if it made a difference and Rose finally went to sleep. She’s got so much energy and is super playful. She enjoyed some scratches and more playtime before I took her back.
