Merci's Story: Young owner took his own life and no one can take Merci (and Mali) in. The property is being handed back and they were needing to be put to sleep. They have lived with 2 young children. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving their lives. Merci is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Merci came into our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

I've walked Merci a couple of times now.  She's a lovely, friendly dog who is pretty chilled when she is away from the other dogs, who seem to stress her out a little at the moment.  Not that it's any surprise since she is new to kennel life.

Merci is happy to see you and easy to harness.  She enjoys chasing a ball in the paddock and coming in for a stroke and a fuss (once she feels comfortable with you).  She usually walks on a nice, loose lead; sometimes next to me and sometimes just in front. 

She has adorable ears and is very strokable.  I am enjoying getting to know her but it would be wonderful if she could get back into a loving home ASAP.

Merci travelled with me to the Vets this week and I had the pleasure to handle her and get to know her. She has mainly Mastiff in her makeup. She is a very loyal soul and the ordeal she has been through together with 3 days of starvation is still affecting her as she transitions into a completely different lifestyle in Rescue. She is a little barky at the kennel door but welcoming on entrance. She equally is a little agitated taking her passed other dog's kennel gates in the corridor where manoeuvrability is tight. Likes to walk with you. Currently, as she is still settling, strong on the lead but I'm sure she will soon relax and not be so apprehensive about the environment.

No problems examining her in the Vets and she was 1st vaccinated without the need for a muzzle. Wants to make friends. Happy to jump into the crate in the car and travelled well.

It will be lovely to watch Merci 'open' to her current circumstance and feel safe and loved. She will feel more able to anticipate and attune to life in the kennels.

Found out more info. Mali was homed as a puppy to previous owner DofB Dec 20. Merci joined him as a puppy in around 5. 2022. They had a litter in Nov 23 when Merci had caesarean and neutered same time.

Stunning Merci met Bruce who has recently lost his life partner Poppy. They were drawn to one another and the family Des and Jason were heartened how well Bruce received Merci. Wonderful homing with such a wonderful family. We are eternally grateful to for taking Bruce and Poppy in and now offering Merci her wonderful future

Sorry a very busy time with 2 homings going on so found just one photo with Des before Merci jumped into their van sped homewards....
