Declan's Story: Declan was taken in on welfare grounds within a council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Declan will be neutered by his new owners when old enough as part of the adoption contract, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Declan came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Declan's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Declan has come to stay tonight, he’s been a perfect house guest. He’s a little nervous of things to begin with but started exploring and even had zoomies around the garden which was lovely to see. Declan is so sweet and looks for reassurance as he explores. He managed to master the stairs after a few attempts, he’s gone to the toilet in garden most times so I think toilet training will be really easy with him. Declan’s the best boy who would thrive in a loving home.

Update on Declan he’s back with me after a sleepover with Emma where he was perfectly behaved and enjoyed meeting everyone at the donkey derby. Today I’ve been getting Declan used to walking on a lead, he’s also learned how to sit which only took a couple of times for him to get he’s a clever boy. We went down to the park near me today, Declan isn’t used to traffic and was a bit frightened on the path, once we got to the field where there was more space he was happy to walk, this is the furthest he’s walked so far which is great so I’ll try another walk tomorrow. We went to pets at home today where he greeted everyone so happily. Declan really loves children and likes to go and say hi to all of them, he’s great with my daughter loves playing and is so happy when she comes home.

well it’s been a busy week and little Declan is just amazing, weds we walked around the lake near me and Declan did so well following my daughter and walking on the lead, his confidence is growing everyday. Thurs we went to the beach Declan was just perfect he wasn’t keen on the sea so we just relaxed on the sand taking it all in. Today we went to see the sunflowers, Declan walks well on a lead greeting everyone and all the dogs so gently, now we just need to keep building his confidence around cars and roads, Declan knows sit and down already when my daughter is eating I tell him down and he goes and lays in his bed while she eats. Toilet training is nearly there most of the times Declan will now go into the garden. I have to keep reminding myself this is just all in matter of days he is doing so well. We absolutely love him, he’s just the best boy and has so much to offer his forever family.

Declan is now with me while Leeanne and Lola are on holiday. Declan had a very busy weekend, we spent Saturday in Deal at a food festival. He was a little nervous in the car but travelled well in the back with me and my sister to give plenty of cuddles and reassurance. He walked to the promenade really well on the lead, he wants to say hello to everyone and is particularly drawn to children. He was particularly excited to meet my 6 month old godson, the feeling was mutual. He also had playtime with my friends dogs and met lots of doggies along the way. He played on the beach with my nephew which was solonely to see him jumping around enjoying himself. Everyone who met him loved him and were surprised to find out he was such a young rescue as he is such a good boy. He slept rhe whole way home, he was far to tired to be nervous.
