Enya's Story: Enya lost her home for welfare concerns. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Enya is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Enya came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Enya's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: We were asked to help Enya several years ago...she was retained in concerning circumstances out of our reach. Suddenly we have been asked to help her again and we stepped immediately forwards

Enya came into RescueRemedies on the 4th August 24

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Enya yesterday. Geoff had been to say hello to her the day before and so I knew she was a little scared and unsure right now. :yes.gif: well what a difference a day makes!! Yes she is unsure, but I was greeted with a lovely waggy tail and a lick and she was very happy to have leads slipped on and for us to venture out. This little girl has had the worst of lives so far, but that has all changed and she is beginning to realise that she is safe and loved and all will be well. She wears a very anxious frown at times but more and more I saw that happy staffie smile during our time together. She is very scared of other dogs right now, and will freeze and back away from them but she is learning that she's safe and doesn't need to be scared. We saw Magic and Diane on our walk and Enya jumped back and froze with her hair raised on her back but after one bark Magic just stood grinning at her and Diane and I gently reassured her and you could see her begin to relax, Magic then walked in one direction and we went in the other. In the woods we came across the statue of a dog by a bench and she froze again and wouldn't approach it to see that it was not real, so we turned around and ended up following Magic. Enya was happy to do this, no signs of stress at all, which I felt was massive progress in a very short space of time. She wouldn't take any treats outside her kennel, but happily took them once back. Enya's life has turned a corner and it won't be long, I feel, before she realises this. I took loads of photos, initially she was so busy sniffing and exploring the paddocks there were lots of side and back views, but then she seems to realise she was the star of the show and did some splendid posing for me thumbs.gif examples below xxxx

Took Enya out again yesterday, she is very people friendly and gaining in confidence around them. Happy greetings with licks and exits kennels well. She is still very wary/unsure about dogs she meets outside and will freeze and try to back away from them. She will also back away from going in a direction she doesn't want to go, which I feel is an indication of how scary it still is for her, but does mean you have to be careful she does not back out of her harness, reassurance and if at all possible going where her preferred path is will help build her confidence up. She seems to find the woods with the dappled shadow ahead of her more scary and was very unsure about approaching a pile of horse dung, yet the traffic on the road didn't bother her at all. It was a very hot day and I really wanted her in the shade, but she wasn't that comfortable with it. She is such a sweetheart, I am looking forward to taking her out again love4.gif

Enya and I went out again yesterday. She greeted me with friendly enthusiasm and a lick and had a nice nose to nose farewell with Bleu in the next kennel, tails wagging furiously before we left her kennel. We headed for the paddock where Enya delighted me by indulging in some zoomies and then rolling around on her back enjoying the feel of the cool grass thumbs.gif it was fabulous seeing her enjoying herself like that. Well, I thought, progress!! So I threw a ball to see if she a) knew how to play and b) wanted to! Yes was the answer to both of those, so we had some fun with a ball and then went for a walk. Enya is not at all bothered by traffic, still seems to prefer walking on pavements and roads to the woods, and wanted to visit every garden we passed to check out the houses, which was sweet. She didn't, however, want to go back to the rescue and since she is still trying to back out of her harness if you are trying to get her to go where she doesn't want to and the temperature was steadily rising, I called for support and a slip lead and we waited :doh.gif:
There were some workmen nearby who were very interested in Enya (one of them even offered to carry her back [0128.gif] ) I was asked if she was friendly and the answer is, yes, very :biggrin.gif: I knelt beside her to give her a cuddle and she thoroughly washed my face, which was very nice (I did suggest walking in the direction we needed to go would also be nice but just got another lick :smiley-gen132.gif: ) and then the cavalry arrived and we headed back to the rescue, Enya as jaunty as anything with the extra company :smiley-chores002.gif: and walking beautifully!!!!! We had a cuddle in the paddock when we got back as we both felt we'd had an adventure :yes.gif:

Met and walked Enya for the first time today. She was asleep in her kennel on my arrival. What a sweetheart as Jan says. She woke up with tail wagging and lots of love to give, leaning in to me for strokes. She wasn’t too happy with her opposite neighbour as exiting but as soon as we were out she settled and we started our walk round and she was intrigued to stop and watch Teds, who was in the paddock chasing balls. She watched for a while and was relaxed, accepting and giving cuddles all the while. Yes, she does back away from her harness if she doesn’t want to go somewhere and is typical of her staffyness too. We went in the paddock to play and yes, she loves as good roll around and again she was relaxed. An easy stroll back to her kennel and I will look forward to meeting this lovely lady again love4.gif

Enya is a real cutie. She has gained a little more confidence since I walked her last week. Very welcoming in her kennel, harnessing up and heading out for a trip to the paddock. She is very entertaining with her rolly pollys and back scratches on the ground. We took a walk around the grounds and she only pulled back against her harness once as she didn’t like the branch across the path, but on turning back, she trotted along happily. We took a break at the bench for some cuddles and booty scratches before going back to her kennel. She is a bundle of fun 🤩

Enya's confidence is developing daily. She was brave enough to walk past the statue in the woods commemorating one of our dogs with hardly a sideways glance where last week she would not approach at all. She really enjoys cuddles and fussing from humans and was happily nose to nose with young Bleu (who was in the kennel next to hers) when he was leaping up to see what was going on, Enya's tail was wagging furiously and it was obviously a very friendly encounter. It was lovely to see her so relaxed in the paddock with zoomies and roly poly ball playing. She is a lovely girl love4.gif

Enya did her best to climb on my lap in the paddock yesterday having decided that she really wanted to be a lapdog 0002.gif] this little girl has just blossomed and was thrilled to see Sully walking along outside the paddock and rushed over to greet him and join him from her side of the fence with happy tail. Some ecstatic zoomies and chasing of balls followed upon by lots of cuddles made us both very happy. Enya is an easy girl to love love4.gif
