Abbie's Story: Abbie was found 3 am running around London streets abandoned with no chip and no one coming forwards trying to find her. Her claws were growing into her pads and infected. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Abbie is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Abbie came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Abbie's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: We were tipped off by a RescueRemedies supporter that this little love needed a safe Rescue place.

Abbie is settling after arriving 24 hours ago: You hear her tail thumping away when she recognises someone she knows. She is in with the Staff so has a lot of activity to absorb. She is the size of a Scottie but not heavy set.
I shared 2 short walks with her today and she was very happy to sit with me in the Poet's hut and be stroked and examined. The Dog Warden had stated she found a lump on her tummy. I was able to explore this and yes its a 2cm Mammary Tumour ...and then there is the ahh hah moment: This is why she was dumped. Never chipped and so never been to a vet of late. ?Someone got scared of a large vet bill. We have her booked in for vaccination and full assessment next week. She hasn't really eaten much as yet but I'm sure she will soon feel more settled and begin to enjoy the delights placed in front of her. She apparently eats treats but we need her to eat wholesome food.

I took Abbie out for the first time today. I gave her a treat and said hello, very easy to get a lead onto her harness and collar and happy to trot off. Lots of sniffing, a relaxed walk, not so keen on brambles, so we took a clear path. After a few minutes she started looking at me more and so far seemed very mild mannered. We sat on the bench afterwards, she lay down right next to me and moved close. I put a comfy towel down and she enjoyed sitting on that. She took some treats so very gently. Looking forward to more walks with Abbie. I think she would very much like a comfy sofa with a big fluffy cushion and luxury.

At the end of a long day's walking I had a bit of extra time and decided to meet new girl Abbie - what a treat that was! She is lovely with a gentle, easy personality. I can see some of the Scottie breed in her but mainly she is just Abbie - quirky looking and lovely. I have a feeling that she won't be in rescue care for long.

I had a lovely walk with Abbie, we were joined by Jupiter and Karen, Abbie walks beautifully and takes no notice of other dogs. We walked a fair distance, this did not phase Abbie, she likes to stop for a sniff, she is very relaxed little girl and loves a cuddle. Hopefully she can find her sofa and loving family soon

Abbie was very friendly and calm. She seemed to really enjoy her walk, trotting gently along, stopping for sniffs every so often. She had a look at some cows in a field, and showed a friendly interest in a spaniel we met, but was unfazed by anything. A really lovely dog.

Abbie is just adorable! She was incredibly welcoming in her kennel and was a dream to walk. After a chilled walk in the woods, we sat on a bench and Abbie plonked herself between Chris’s legs and demanded cuddles. How can you resist her? We really hope she’ll find her forever sofa very soon.

Abbie and I went to the Vets on Monday for a check over and to formulate a plan.
Abbie was carrying a slightly high temperature and she hasn't been eating well. Our Vet was concerned and did an ultrasound on her to check if as she had Pyrometre (Womb infection) and fortunately she concluded she didn't. Our Vet then gave her 3 injections An anti-sickness; antibiotic and her first vaccination. We checked her for a chip but agreed with the receiving vets on finding, and dog warden, she doesn't have one. Abbie was very easy to handle and exam she however became a 'baby' when it came to injections. We decided to microchip her when she is under Gen An as 3 injections in one day was enough!
The plan:
On Monday the 12th our Vet is going to spay her and strip one side of her large mammary tumour. She does have a small tumour on the other-side and this maybe done when she next goes under for a dental as her teeth have heavy tartar on them.
Meanwhile we have managed to get her to eat better sufficient for her to receive her course of antibiotics and also her daily panacur treatment which eradicates Lungworm if it is present. Lungworm affects the clotting factor in the blood and our Vets insists each of our dogs gets a 7 day course before they go into surgery.
Abbie is a star, a way to go yet but meanwhile she has lots of friends and admirers
