Mars' Story: Mars was found abandoned running around a busy road in Kingston at midnight with 7 others. All suffering from malnutrition and under-nutrition. They were not chipped and unclaimed within a council pound. They were checked over by a Dog Law Police Officer (DLO) due to their colouring but cleared from be 'dangerous dog breeds'. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Mars is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Mars came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Mars' progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: Called by the dog warden; 2 of the 8 had got a Rescue place but the other 6 booked in to be put to sleep the next morning having served their legal 7 days. Relief by all as we agreed to squeeze them in.
Mars came into RescueRemedies on the 17th July 24

I’ve had the pleasure of taking Mars (along with his kennel mates) out for a lovely stroll and play in the paddock twice this week. He has a lovely bright nature, he’s brave and happy to take the lead, striding ahead of the pack to get to the paddock. He’s an absolute sweetheart, no puppy nipping or nibbling and potters around sniffing all the new smells in the paddock. I hope he finds his forever home where he can grow and flourish into the gorgeous dog he’s bound to be.

We had a nice stroll with Mars and Twix on Sunday. Mars is such a character, he is playful, confident, and loves interacting with you.
He’s an energetic boy, it was hard to keep him still long enough for a picture
He has the most striking blue eyes!
A happy, gorgeous pup

I took this little beauty Mars out for a walk today. All his siblings have now been homed so he has a kennel all to himself
He was very excited to see me and easy to get harness on slight mouthing as you’d expect from a puppy his age.
He pulled a little whilst we were on our way so I stopped a few times to give him a chance to reset.
Mars was thrilled when he realised we were going to the stream and what fun he had.
He has the most beautiful eyes and gentle nature, he makes wonderful eye contact and listens.
I expect him to be snapped up pretty quickly and will definitely be walking him at any opportunity I get

I decided to make the acquaintance of little Mars yesterday. I have seen him out and about with his siblings and been greeted enthusiastically each time, but now he is residing in rather solitary splendour in the large room he shared with them, as they have all now found their forever families, I thought he might like a bit of extra attention
. Well, I wasn't wrong
he greeted me very enthusiastically and was quite prepared to help me put his harness on, but a chewy treat diverted his attention so that we made some progress !! Mars is an absolutely stunning dog, with an interestingly marked chocolatey coat and the most amazing Aquamarine blue eyes, he is also very much a bouncy, friendly, energetic and excitable puppy. Everything, but everything is interesting, fun and for exploring. He really wants to please and tries very hard to understand what you want from him. He started by jumping up a bit but we established that feet on the floor was a good idea and set off for the paddock with Mars leading the way with enthusiasm and energy!! I thought he might like to run around the paddock and chase balls and expend some of that puppy energy, but he didn't really want to leave me and doesn't seem at the moment to understand what balls are for, so we popped the leads on again and continued our walk. This was very exciting because Magic was passing with Diane and Mars was absolutely convinced that Magic wanted his company
, well Magic is a good boy and didn't object at all to Mars following him with enthusiasm
but after a while Mars decided we should go in a different direction and we actually left the rescue grounds. It was very interesting that away from what was familiar Mars stopped pulling and started sniffing, and kept checking back, looking up at me with his amazing eyes and a very happy tongue lolling out the side of his mouth. This little boy is full of fun and his happiness is infectious. I really do hope that he is adopted soon because he is going to love being part of a family. He will benefit hugely from consistent training and is going to be an absolute bundle of joy to have around.

I had the pleasure of little Mars company yesterday. Jan has described him perfectly and I experienced exactly the same energy and enthusiasm, but away from the kennels, out on the common he really relaxed and slowed his pace and enjoyed exploring and sniffing. He needs to curb his excitement around other dogs and some social walks with calm dogs will help with this.

Walked little marvellous Mars yesterday.
He is such a typical staffie pup, full of energy and enthusiasm, loves everyone, desperate to play with other dogs, and has an inherently happy nature
where everything is fun. Would love to see this lad in a home of his own soonest where he will get more human attention (which he loves) and the training that every puppy needs. He is quick to learn and anxious to please
full of energy and with so much to learn about the world and how to have fun. We came across other dogs on our walk yesterday and he just wanted to say hello, up on his back legs, pulling forward and making little yelping noises
the humans attached to the other dogs thought he was very sweet (which he is) and asked how old he was commenting on his striking looks. Little Mars needs to learn to control his enthusiams and this will come with training, age and understanding. He's huge fun to be around, you can't help but smile

I met Mars for the first time today, I came armed with treats to make putting on his harness a bit easier and he was fine! He enjoyed playing tug in the paddock, sometimes going for my shoe laces but a firm No and redirecting him back onto the toy worked, same with when he tried to mouth my hands (he is a puppy after all!). He needs a good home who will teach him to be calm around other dogs (not reactive as such just veryyy excited) and work on lead walking. We worked on Sit and Down and had a cuddle too. He’s a very gorgeous boy.

Mars came home with me for the day and he travelled well in the car (only short 10min journey). He has beautiful colouring and eyes and such a cheeky and loving personality. He really settled into home life, knows how to play with toys, loved the antler I gave him (chews and toys are needed to redirect his puppy mouthing but responds so well to a No and some praise). Took himself outside for the toilet. Loved my partner and had a nap with him- you can see him look very content in the videos! The main training needed is calmness around dogs. When we moved away from dogs on our walk we did a tiny bit of lead training and he started to understand but needs consistency. Can’t help but take so many pictures/videos
