If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. De Niro's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: We were asked if we could help another greyhound and De Niro is the beautiful boy chosen for us and his new life.

What a totally beautiful boy. His face reminds me of little Bernie (now Ernie) who was homed recently - such a lovely yet slightly anxious expression - I can't wait to walk him and to meet him properly.

Today I met De Niro for the first time since he arrived at rescue remedies.
He was very calm getting harnessed and didn’t jump up once. He was a bit hesitant as I expected due to the new people and environment but once he was out, he was very happy.
De Niro walked by my side the whole time, like he didn’t want to step a paw out of line. We had a few sniffs here and there and also stopped for a water break.
There was also a few breaks in the walk for some pets and cuddles! Overall, De Niro was amazing to walk and can see him becoming a very well liked dog at the shelter :)

I met De Niro yesterday when I went to walk his kennel mate. He was so welcoming that I just had to take him for a walk too.
Harnessing him was a doddle. He was ever so easy to manage. Very calm and quiet and with the same sweet disposition as his kennel mate, Hayley.
He seemed to want to stay close to me and he walked either just in front of me if the path was narrow, or sandwiched against my side.
We stopped for a few strokes and then we had some more strokes, together with Hayley, when I dropped him back. He's an affectionate boy.
The only disappointing thing about De Niro was that he doesn't talk Italian. I tried a few Italian phrases on him but he didn't really respond.
De Niro is another truly lovely dog to add to my list of faves.

Affectionate and happy to see you without being boisterous, De Niro was a joy to meet today. He had a play in the paddock - he seemed a little unsure what to do at first and didn’t chase the ball, but soon enjoyed bounding around after me. Maybe he didn’t get much chance to play as a professional athlete.
We met Rocco, a little Patterdale terrier, and his walker, and De Niro wanted to stay with them, following then going in front but checking they were still with us.
He was unreactive to other dogs except for a similar calm interest. Even when 3 horses trotted up suddenly behind us he was only slightly startled, then very interested in sniffing where they’d been.
After a good walk he enjoyed some fuss and treats - I look forward to taking him out again.

I took this handsome fella out for a walk today before his fosterers came to give him a lovely break and some home comforts (on his journey to finding a forever home).
He was excited to see me and seemed keen to get out so a walk, but then as we approached reception he decided that would be happier to hang around reception and watch the coming and goings, drawing attention from other walkers happy to say hello.
After a little people and dog watching DeNiro decided he was ready for a walk and took me out behind the rescue centre full of wildlife smells to explore. We reached the bridge over the river and he jumped the first stile without any hesitation. However, as we reached the other side of the bridge DeNiro did not believe he could or would cross the stile to enter the woods on the other side. So after various unsuccessful attempts we turned around and retraced our steps. DeNiro, however, did was unconvinced that he had crossed the first stile before. Luckily this sweet gentle, if a little stubborn boy, did not mind when not wishing to be stuck on a bridge all day I found myself lifting his front legs over it then his back.
After our amusing interlude on the bridge we walked in the other direction, exploring the closed road for gas repairs and down the bridal path. DeNiro was unphased by the rain and we completed a lovely long loop, returning just in time to meet his fosterers and tell them our little anecdote.
DeNiro is a lovely boy, calm and quiet boy, who seems to like to stop if people are approaching in the quiet hope that they cannot resist stopping to say hello and stroke his soft head. And who can resist being drawn in by those big brown eyes!

Re: De Niro Greyhound DofB 2020 RRemedies Centre
We have been so excited to foster De Niro alongside Hayley but we needed to wait for a quiet (at home weekend) so that we could give him full focus.
Well that weekend was this one and De Niro was a total dream.
Hayley had already been with us for the week and she was so pleased to see De Niro and show him around our house.
Hayley showed off her ability to do stairs which De Niro is still having to learn, we will teach him next time with some treats.
Both gorgeous hounds are so amazing with our children, they’re so relaxed and will exercise as much or as little as you’d like them to.
De Niro learnt this weekend that when we eat our dinner it’s not for him to take, and Hayley who already knows the rules was very good at showing him the way.
De Niro also slept through the night without a peep and woke up at 8:30am!
We hope both Hayley and De Niro are adopted very soon, however until that time comes they can both have foster breaks together with us as I’m so smitten with them

Re: De Niro Greyhound DofB 2020 RRemedies Centre
We took Hayley and DeNiro out for a walk and some paddock time last Thursday. It was a bit rainy on Thursday, but they were under trees in the woods most of the time. Hayley and DeNiro both have the usual adorable greyhoundness about them. DeNiro seems to be a little bit less sure of himself & new things. On Sunday when we took them out again, he was a bit spooked by a horse walking past (it was a police horse, so didn’t bat an eyelid), and I think the sound of the motorway nearby didn’t help, so I think we’ll stick to the quieter woodland walks for a while, until he gets more used to the newness of life outside the greyhound racing world. Hayley was on a mission on Sunday - and was excited to see a squirrel - I think it made her day! The squirrel disappeared, so we just waited a while until she was sure it was gone . In the paddocks, they didn’t do a lot of running around - mostly sniffing and pottering, and an occasional mini zoomie when they felt like it. They definitely enjoy getting neck rubs and cuddles! Beautiful dogs
