Percy's Story: Percy was abandoned in kennels. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Percy now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Percy came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Percy's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: Hi Lynne
I have been asked to help this young Am bulldog x staffy. Between 1 and 2 . Been in a boarding kennels for months under the council but now free to go to rescue. I just wondered if he might suit some people looking for a young friendly dog?

Percy is another sweet boy desperate to meet; desperate to please. Everything about life as it opens before him interests and engages his attention. A little strong on the lead as he moves forwards to explore. Very affectionate and nice easy boy.

Can't wait to meet Percy!

WARNING: This pup is extremely cute and will completely melt your heart! Percy is so adorable. I love spending time with him. He is always excited to see you and get his harness on (he has literally jumped into it before!). He is very good-natured and affectionate. At the moment he walks ahead on the lead but he isn't particularly strong and politely slows down and waits for me when I have to go through wet or muddy terrain. I think he would like some dog friends as he's keen to say "hiya!" to passing dogs and has a little whimper when they pass by him. After our walk he likes to have cuddles and give lots of kisses. He's very soft and strokeable. Everyone needs a Percy!
P.s. sorry about my lack of multi-tasking ability and all the chat in this video. Hopefully it still shows what a lovely dog he is.

I had the pleasure of meeting and walking Percy today.
He is an enthusiastic youngster and was excited to say hello. As I put his harness on I got the impression he was trying to give me a paw, so it’s seems he’s got some tricks mastered despite his puppyish energy. He was keen to get out for a walk (we’d shut his neighbour in to ensure this would be easy) not having walked him before.
An eager start gave way to a good even pace which suited me perfectly. Percy appeared happy to sniff on the go rather than want to stop a lot, which was nice. He was not phased by mud or the odd cyclist in the woods.
We also passed a few walkers and although he was sometimes interested he did not pulled towards or away from strangers. He was sometimes even too busy sniffing his way along the verges to really notice other people.
It was a nice bold walk with no other distractions to gauge his response.
This lovely happy boy seemed ready to make our return from our woodland loop, I suspect for a drink as the weather had warmed up. There were just a couple of occasions once when we first met and once more on our walk when this pups enthusiasm for some love caused him to jump up rather than keep his paws on the ground but he appears receptive to learning.
We met some other walkers and dogs as we passed the gate to re-enter the site and Percy waited patiently with me until the other dogs passed (with interest but no pulling or barking).
Once we were back inside his kennel after he calmly and patiently waited for me to unharness him, he showed me a beautiful sit on command for a treat before we parted ways with a few more treats to allow me to pop out of the door unnoticed.
I hope to walk this lovely boy again soon.

Is there anything cuter than little Percy in the bluebells? (No.)
Another gorgeous walk with the gorgeous pup. We were working on learning that it's more profitable to sit than jumping up in friendly excitement, and he was doing quite well. He's an astute boy, especially for a young'un. He is also managing to sit nicely and attentively for quite a number of seconds, even with the distraction of other dogs who I know he actually wanted to play with.
There are times he is just so incredibly adorable, I want to eat him up.
(disclaimer: not really).

I love walking the cheeky chap, that is Percy. He is adorable and yes, he can be excitable when you first meet him but he is now easier to harness and keen to get and enjoy a walk. Today, Percy found a dog toy (a pineapple) on leaving the kennel area and happily carried it for, pretty much the whole walk. He has a lot of love to give and loves getting some back too. He would make someone or a family smile continuously I’m certain of it.

"He's perfect, isn't he. He just needs a home".
That's a quote from my impressed mum when I took Percy to visit her at the weekend. She had been wondering what this rescue dog would be like that I was bringing to see her. She was surprised by just how easy, polite, happy, obedient, affectionate and loving Percy is - with everyone. In fact, he totally won her over with his adorable-ness. She is now a Percy super-fan (as am I). I think she'd have happily kept him but he would have been a bit too strong for her.
Percy basically leapt into my arms when he saw I had had come to take him out for the day which was a lovely welcome. You should know that he can be rather excitable and wriggly when he sees you!
He was perfect in the car. Quiet as a mouse and just lay down calmly, except when we drove through high streets when Percy would eagerly look out of the window to take in the hustle and bustle.
We went on a long hike in the forest which we both very much enjoyed. I think Percy's highlights would be crunching through the leaves, sniffing all the plants, scratching his back on a tree stump and making friends with everyone he came across, who thought he was a lovely, friendly, handsome boy.
Percy is easy-going, very cuddly and eager to please. He has a jolly, keen spring in his step when he walks. He usually comes when you call, sits on command and offers his paw. He also did a 'down' for me.
When we sat down to lunch, Percy just lay down beside me and didn't bother us for food at all. What a good boy!
I had THE BEST DAY hanging out with beautiful Percy. How incredibly lucky the person will be who takes him home for good.
