If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays. Shadow's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: Shadow's owner called really wanting a good home for Shadow as she isn't walked and needs the freedom of a home which she doesn't get as separated from resident female dog

I had the pleasure of meeting Shadow today. She has the most beautiful colouring that you can't appreciate in the photos and is very shiny.
I got an excited welcome in the kennel and she was pleased to be going out.
Once out Shadow walked beautifully, no pulling on the lead at all. She enjoyed taking in all the smells on the Common and we did a long loop, passing people, horses and other dogs. We followed Austin and Hugo for a while who we bumped in to. She was well behaved around all.
We managed the stiles on the bridge with a quick bit of encouragement to jump over.
On the way back she was spooked by man in a high viz jacket so maybe she hasn't seen many of those but otherwise I can't fault this lovely girl
A little video to show how nicely she walks.

I have walked shadow several times now and really look forward to seeing her. The pictures don’t show how beautiful and shiny her chocolate coat is. Once out on our walk she was so well behaved, she loves being praised so I continued telling her what a good girl she is. We saw a squirrel and she was very good and listened to me and didn’t pull. We passed a few dogs with no issues. I expect she will be snapped up quickly such a lovely girl

I took Shadow for a stroll around the woods and a dip in the stream.
She is a big fan of the water and today she found a huge log in the water which she tried so desperately to carry out of the water but it was just too big. ( Apologies for the terrible pics )
She is such a good listener and when I said it was time to head back she was very happy to get back to the path.
On the way she did find another much smaller stick so carried that for a while until she heard some birds then was distracted.
This is the first time I’ve seen this playful side so lovely to see.
Shadow really is a special girl and so so beautiful, I hope she finds her forever home soon.

First time I met Shadow today and I must admit I'm rather smitten. I do love a lab! and although she is a Lab x staff there are definitely a lot of the lab characteristics.
Excitable in her kennel, once out she was as good as gold and waited patiently whilst we fixed her harness and removed a tick.
She walks beautifully, and no pulling even down to the stream where she really enjoyed a splash. She really listens - seemed intent on dragging a massive log up the bank but when I told her no she dropped it.
Really lovely girl....she's already on my list for next week!

It was my first time walking Shadow today and I love her! She walks amazingly on the lead as you can see in the video. Walked past another dog and a runner with no issues. Had a quick paddle in the stream and there was a family next to us and she was so good. She had hurt her tail in the kennel (wagging too much!) and whilst the kennel staff fixed her up she was so well behaved and just took the treats and had a sniff. She was a bit interested in a squirrel that ran straight past her but she responded well and walked on. Also enjoyed a cuddle and a scratch.
