Benji needs a supportive family to offer time and tolerance to allow their new dog to settle.
NB Our Rescue asks owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces and manage encounters, as dog law changes place dog's lives at greater risk.

Known background: Benji was found stray/abandoned and unclaimed within a council pound. We stepped forwards to offer a Rescue place and save Benji's life.

Visit Benji's thread for daily updates, lots of pictures and videos. Please click to submit Online Application We will match you with a dog that suits your lifestyle, please remain open we successfully home 350 dogs per annum. We work fast to secure our dogs their loving homes.

***PLEASE HELP: We have to ask for suggested min. donation £175 at the time of adoption, to support so many dogs in kennels. We have no state sponsorship and exist on the goodwill of the public and our supporters. Rescue Remedies offers their dogs back up for life.

Benji's Thread below: Watch progress through our Rescue
Original Referral: Benji was found tied up in the woods in the middle of nowhere last week - not surprisingly no one has come forward... He's a neutered male, estimated to be around 10. Was hooching with fleas and as you can see has a large mass. This is in his armpit - not a great place but we are unable to carry out the tests to find out what it is unfortunately due to cost. Notes from our vet:
"Large mass under left axilla, nodular and adherent so would require removal/biopsy to determine cause but suspect nasty neoplastic rather than simple lipoma"

With people he's been no problem at all, loves cuddles and attention. Prefers a quiet life with other dogs.

Staff tried him in the kitchen with quiet Labrador and he was fine, happily ignored each other. Tried with a livelier one and he didn't like her trying to say hello to him, he showed his teeth and then snapped when she pushed it. Went out with quiet cocker spaniel at the weekend. He walked along fine with her, was off lead in the paddock and just ignored her. When came to put back on lead she came over to give her a sniff and he snapped at her to say go away. No aggressive - didn't actually try to bite, just doesn't want to interact. Sarah said she feels he prefers people to dogs.
He certainly doesn't go looking for trouble and as long as other dogs ignore him, he ignores them. If was in a foster home with another dog that left him alone he'd probably ok but he really has no interest in interacting with other dogs and wouldn't like anything that was in his face: Within his current setting.

Best wishes, ali x Swindon[/color]

Little Benji is a sweet character without edge. Made himself very comfortable as my passenger travelling down the M4/ M25/ A25 into the vets. Mark has taken the tumour off his leg cleanly and has sent it away for analysis but its not nice and Benji needed to be free of it! Collected by John & Sylvie this afternoon

What a lovely and affectionate little boy! He didn't like being by himself in the back room, even though he had the run of the garden through the conservatory, so I have brought him into the front room, with the Mob, but put him into a crate until he knows them. He seem very happy with the arrangement at the moment....let's hope it continues for a brief period.

He has a pressure bandage on the wound as it was oozing quite considerably when we left the vets yesterday...it's now swelling up above the bandage. but he seems quite oblivious to it. He went for two short walks this morning and took the opportunity to do his "stuff"....what a good boy!!

He's very affectionate, and his tail wags non-stop!!!

He's a delightful little lad who will give great pleasure to whomsoever had the pleasure to adopt him.

Benji is an absolute darling. He had a big operation about ten days ago to remove a large growth under his "armpit"....the size of a clenched fist. The biopsy came back as a "spindle cell tumour" which is a soft tissue cancer notoriously difficult to excise completely. had it been on Benji's arm the vet said the best course of action would be amputation. But, as usual, Mark has done a superb job and has said that we must just keep a watchful eye on how the area progresses to see if more surgery is necessary.

But it has not dampened Benji's love of life: he wags his tail constantly, has "normal" daily two hour walks, eats like a horse, loves mixing and running with the Mob when he's not sitting on my lap or vying for a place on the settee with one of the other residents. He regularly shares an armchair with Zena or Diesel or Nala and, at night, snuggles up close to me on the floor.

He's a super little lad who has a surprisingly deep, big dog bark. He gets on well with everybody, human and canine, and would make the person who has the good fortune to adopt him, truly happy as an affectionate and enthusiastic companion.

What an absolute pleasure to meet little Benji with John and Sylvie last Friday, how time flies, can't believe I've let a week go by without posting these. Benji worships John and the affection between them is so endearing, and the smile on Johns face as Benji sat on his lap in the car enjoying a fuss, all very heart warming :)
