Dog rescue is an emotional roller-coaster. I mentioned to Lynne that I didn't think I was right for Leon. He tends to really play up with me. It's not malicious but can be painful. He does settle but it takes time. She told me to persist.
Lo and behold, he was his usual overexcited self exiting the kennel, then quickly settled of his own accord! We followed Duke and Alexis around the common and he was as good as gold. He had one short lived, jumpy/grabby episode, and again settled of his own accord. Pleased for him. Lifted my spirit. Hope for a future homing. He is a lovely, overexcited, overwhelmed puppy looking for a patient friend to settle down with.

Leon is making great progress around his jumping and grabbing. Today we walked with Jacqui and Leanne. Both dogs were fine with each other. Leon is pretty good around other dogs. He also had a fuss from Sarah and Cora, and a mooch in the yard. He's a lovely puppy waiting for the right sofa.

Leon's not been too keen on the common lately. Sometimes you can coax him on and he'll walk the whole route: other times he will baulk, then start staring at me, then a little jump up, then start grabbing. The baulk is the first communication, and its a balancing act how far I coax him onward before he decides on the next communication. It is a pattern, so the grabbing can be avoided. Today I pushed it too far and so he went to the grabbing. After we turned back he was fine. He wanted to be around the grounds, so that's what we done.
Leon likes his mooching around and meeting people. After we've had our obligatory cuddle-fest on the picnic table, we visit a few stations where he likes to hang out:

Leon and I have been going for walks regally for the last couple of months. He’s a young dog with lots to learn and I’ve found that he gains confidence walking with another older dog. He loves to follow them initially and then when his brave brain kicks in he will lead the way. We’ve done walks into town, around the woods and most recently the ‘charity walk’. As mentioned before Leon will let you know when he is anxious or worried, he stops, he will lay down and does grab when very overwhelmed. This is usually when the routine has changed or you’re introducing him to something new. It’s a lot when it happens but it’s seems a solid routine that he knows helps a lot. He’s a beautiful dog, there’s nothing nasty about him at all, he is very affectionate with people and not at all dog reactive. He just needs a family who will work with him, give him the stability and routine he needs and also the understanding to work through the moments when he finds it all too much.

Leon is a firecracker for sure, but I 100% believe he will do well with the right people. You can see he just wants to be in your pocket all the time. He is unsure of himself and communicates this by sometimes grabbing or pulling backwards when he doesn't want to go any further. I find him very intimate, lost, and sometimes unable to settle for any period of time. I also find him wanting and willing to be belong to you. He's a very happy chap who needs his champion. (Shower time awaits!)

Nice walk with Leon and Marge today. They readily accept each others company and it helps Leon to have a more confident guide in front of him.

Had a great walk with Leon on the weekend
Excited to get out of his kennel as usual but other than that I couldn’t fault him!
We did the whole of keepers cottage walk solo and nothing phased this lovely boy. Super proud of him.
