Rusty's Story: Rusty was overwhelmed in his current family with 3 other dogs: His sister, a Skye terrier and Newfoundland and hens in the back of the garden. E.g. Excessive barking almost screaming at times especially at other dogs in the home. He had to spend a lot of time in his crate and enjoys chews. Rusty has been waiting since October 2023 to come into our Rescue. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place. Rusty is neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Rusty came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £300 (£500 for a pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Rusty's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: Can you help? We think Rusty would be better in a dog only home or with one very laid back female dog We think a very calm patient and experienced owner who can work on his problems and anxieties. The vet suggested he wears a nervous collar and this is what we have done in spite of his hyper behaviour he is very sensitive and responds well to praise and kindness. We are very concerned he goes to a loving responsible home

What a lovely boy! Rusty has arrived with his little 'suitcase'. Friendly greeting to everyone he met....we hope he'll consider this a holiday until his new family find him.

I’ve had the pleasure of walking Rusty twice now. What a gorgeous boy he is!!
He’s great to clip leads on, no fuss at all getting out and really enjoys sniffing around. This time he found a stuffed toy and was very engrossed shredding that to bits. He loves to play ball in the paddock and actually gives the ball to you.
He was very happy and motivated following Rocco on a walk. No reaction to other dogs so far. He loves a stroke and a cuddle and will lean into you for reassurance.
Initially I think the noise of all the dogs was overwhelming for him but on the second walk his confidence had increased no end. He’s a wonderful little dog.

I had the absolute pleasure of taking Rusty for his first walkers walk. He was very nervous when I went to collect him from his kennel but within a few minutes (plus sausage) he was my best friend. We walked in the woods and he was interested in everything sights and sounds. He is responsive to his name being called and brilliant at sitting when requested to do so. In total he is a brilliantly affectionate, little dog who wants to be your best friend. At the end of our walk I went to the paddock with him so he could stretch his legs and once again he was delightful running around and finding balls etc to play with. He is quite nervous but his curiosity gets the better of him. I had no problem changing his harness or collar which he was happy for me to do. He can be a little wary of other dogs especially if they are on the large size, a small crumble by him and he walks on. He would make a wonderful companion to someone who wants to share their life and adventures with a happy little dog.

I met Rusty again a few days later for a walk and he met me like an old friend so off we went for our walk enjoying the sunshine and for him the new smells and adventure ahead. If you think you can offer Rusty a home he will not disappoint.

What lovely photos of Rusty. I had taken him out so that Anne could accomplish her usual fab photo shoot.
I then walked him - not too far on this first walk. He really is an absolute poppet - friendly, loves treats, yet anxious. It will take him a while to settle properly and he is probably feeling a bit confused by the noise and movements at the rescue. One thing is certain - he will be very popular with the walkers at RR and another thing - he really should not be too long in rescue as this is a little dog who would bond almost immediately with his new owner, would appreciate home comforts and will not be too energetic as he is now nearly eight. Lovely little dog. Kiss of love.gif
