This weekend I was able to take Austin out for a little break Friday and Saturday which he absolutely loved
There was a lot of sleeping involved
Friday I picked him up late afternoon he jumped into the boot no problem and laid down until we got home
He is a very good boy in the car no issues
It was warm that day so it took a while for him to calm down and adjust to the change in environment
One thing about Austin is he does not realise how big and heavy he is! In his head he’s just a baby and can be quite clingy so you have to be prepared but he does listen when told to get down and will sit and either wait for permission for another cuddle or lay down and go to sleep
We had no accidents in the house - he let me know every time he needed the toilet
He sat and waited until he was told he could eat his dinner and breakfast which was very good
Saturday morning we went to a secure field, again it was quite warm so not much running around
The rest of the day was very chilled with little walks around the block
Austin is reactive when he sees other dogs so he will need to be in only dog home
He loves people and children but I wouldn’t recommend him in a home with young children purely because of his size and reactive-ness to other dogs
Every person we met said what a beautiful boy he is and he really is so loyal and so loving and such a funny character
He needs a family with patience and the ability to work through his bad habits
He wants to please and given the right environment would make the best furry companion
I was very sad bringing him back to the kennel but look forward to our next cuddle

Austin the snuggle bug

Austin and I have enjoyed a couple of walks this week and he’s been such a good boy. He’s gives you the best excitable greeting which makes it slightly harder to harness him up but only because he wants to give you so many kisses and cuddles! Out and about he walks perfectly on the lead. He’s not phased by traffic or people passing by. You only have to be on the watch for other moving creatures! Today, there was a deer up ahead that was leaving it pretty late to run away and once Austin caught a glimpse, he only wanted to get to the deer! Fortunately no deers were hurt! Austin and I had lots of cuddles in his kennel on return. He definitely doesn’t know his size as he decided he would sit in my lap! There’s a good chance he is the most affectionate dog at the rescue! The right home would be so lucky to have Austin!

This was my 3rd walk with Austin, and I was so impressed! He is a joy to greet in his kennel, can be a little bouncy and put his paws up, but I get the sense he is trying his very best to be gentle. I just ignored his bids for affection until those toe beans were on the floor, and he quickly obliged. He is good having his harness etc put on, and no trouble leaving the site even though there was lots going on: dogs hanging around and people coming and going.
As you've probably read, Austin can be worried about/reactive to dogs when they are popping out unexpectedly on a walk: but today he did amazing! I actually don't think we've had one reaction over our walks together, even when passing dogs in proximity while coming back to the kennel.
We did a little counting down pattern game to get him past any dogs that he wasn't sure of, which worked very well (he is a quick learner). He was also calm and collected when a squirrel ran out in front of us, and again when a little bird shot out (not many dogs would be!). He loves to take a little break and roll around on the floor and show off his goofy side.
Austin is an incredible dog, that deserves an incredible home. He is everything I would personally look for in a dog, and his reactivity makes up such a tiny part of his big personality. He is unbelievably cute, very bright and has a huge capacity to learn.

I took Austin for a nice long walk on Wednesday when we had a much-needed respite from the hot weather. As ever, he walked really nicely and listened well. We walked down through the woods where we came across some horses - a bit of distance, and some distraction with treats, and it was no issue at all!
Austin can worry at the sight of dogs approaching, but the majority of the time, he is completely relaxed on his lead and easy to walk. He is extremely friendly and loving with people, he always wants to say hello to the people who are working nearby - often trying to entice them in by rolling around on the floor.
Here he is looking quite serious! A stark contrast to his goofy and silly personality.

Austin really is one of my faves, he is the soppiest most cuddly dog ever- he just loves humans! We stopped to say hello to 2 of his regular walkers and he lapped up the affection, then another walker walked past and he had to greet them too. We also had lots of cuddles and he sniffed around the paddock after enjoying a big treat.

I really don’t know how Austin hasn’t found his forever family yet, don’t think I’ve met a more loving dog, he just wants all the affection, all of the time! An exception to this is when he’s spending his time rolling around in the dirt and the mud, trying to make himself a different colour haha!
