Having walked Rexx for the first time I can see why he is winning over all the volunteer walkers.

Rexx was so exited to great me in his kennel. But when asked to sit you could see he was so keen to please, giving me a paw, then another and trying his best to stay calm and show off his best boy moves.

It did take a few moments of sitting and waiting to get over the excitement of a new visitor with such temptation to play; but we did get his harness on after a couple of tries. And once we did he was ready to go.

He has a puppy like enthusiasm and sort of skip in his step despite his size. His pace was variable; mostly reasonable with loose leads, occasionally it was even slowed to a gentle plod, but not for long and there would also be an exited bounce forward every so often.

During one of these excited bounces forward on a slight downhill my pace broke into a brief jog/run, but I quickly realised that if Rexx thought we were running he was going to be much faster than me so I let him know we would just walk and he was happy to take instruction and remain at my pace.

During our walk we crossed the path of a couple of runners and Rexx was completely unphased and despite his excitement to see me he did not get over excited by strangers.

We crossed a bridge with stiles and he was happy to duck under the first and jump over the second. We also passed some dogs at a distance and Rexx was perfectly calm and controlled. He enjoyed plenty of sniffs and was easy to direct to my preferred route.

Rexx is a lovely boy, ready to make everyone smile and to keenly accept an offer of an all over body rub.

I know I’ll be tempted to take this handsome boy for a walk again soon.

Rexx went into Em. Kenns to give us a space so we could save another dogs life...

We knew he would go down well. Here he is playing with Narli and Bear.
