Nigel's Story: Nigel was found abandoned and unclaimed within a London council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Nigel will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Nigel is coming in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Nigel's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Hi Lynne, I hope you are well.

We were wondering if you would be able to help us. We are looking for a space/waiting list place for a stray dog who has been with us since 14/04/2025. He has now completed his stray days and is ready to be rehomed.

I've attached a picture of the beautiful boy, his name is Nigel. We estimate him to be around 5-7 years old, a 40kg entire male Mastiff. He was found abandoned in an enclosed football pitch in a park. He is friendly with people, although can be a bit excitable. He has taken a liking to my colleague Gloria and occasionally humps her, but we have not seen this behaviour present with any other person. He walks really well on the lead. However, we've found that he can be reactive to other dogs. He can walk past them with no issue, however if they come up to him, especially from the front and especially if they are high energy, he will lunge to bite with very little warning. We suspect he may also suffer from some separation anxiety although not surprising considering what he has been through.

We know he was also found as a stray in Kent in 2021 and was later found as a stray in July 2022 and returned to his owner. They have shared this owner's information with us and upon dropping a Section 149 letter to the address, found that he had been evicted the day Nigel was found. I managed to speak with the owner's mother who said the owner was living in his car, had rehomed the dogs and was unreachable and does not want Nigel back.

His stray days are now completed and we are keen to find a rescue place for him. He is such a lovely boy that we are happy to keep hold of him until a place on the waiting list becomes available. Please let us know if you can help, or if you know someone else who might be able to.

Thanks so much, Ax
Nigel will come into RescueRemedies on the 19th May
