Heather's Story: Heather was found abandoned and unclaimed within a council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Heather will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Heather is coming in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.
If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Heather's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: Heather was being put to sleep after one week if not given a Rescue Place. We stepped forwards to save her.
Heather came into RescueRemedies on the 16th April 25.

Beautiful girl, looking forward to meeting you
Re: Heather Mastiff x DofB TBAss RRemedies Centre
I met beautiful Heather as she arrived on Wednesday and oh my goodness what a gorgeous girl she is
She was so friendly and welcoming that we did her photo shoot straight away and Anne really captured her sweet, gentle and curious nature
we had a little stroll around the grounds and then I left her in one of the paddocks to get settled.
Of course I couldn’t resist going back to take Heather out for a late afternoon stroll
I always think for new dogs arriving In kennels it must be so confusing and pretty scary, they don’t know what’s coming next, they have no idea that all they are going to receive from here on in is love, how do you explain that to a dog? Especially to a dog like Heather who has so obviously been bred from over and again. Who knows the last time she had to say goodbye to her puppies
honestly it makes me so cross that these beautiful dogs with so much love to give are so bloody abused for money, to keep having litter after litter purely for profit. So thank goodness Heather is here and we enjoyed a lovely evening walk in the late sunshine and she absolutely loved it, as did I, this girl has the best personality, a little bit cheeky, she will bark for attention! Very, very loving and so up for fun and adventure. I hope that she realises that she is safe now and has a host of lovely walkers to fill her with love
Heather is easy peasy, super welcoming in her kennel and a dream to walk, she waited patiently for Raffie SR to walk past, no reaction from either of them
Heather deserves everything good that life has to offer, I really hope her most perfect, loving forever home is just around the corner

Re: Heather Mastiff x DofB TBAss RRemedies Centre
I met Heather for the first time today and she is so lovely, really excited and bouncy when I came into her kennel but easy enough to harness and put leads on. The dogs around were barking as we exited but she was just keen to get going on the walk and ignored them. I took her to the paddock and she did like the ball but I’m not sure she fully understood how to play, I think she’ll learn quickly though! Another walker came to say hello to her and she greeted them excitedly. We then went for a walk, we had times of slack leads but when she was pulling it was very manageable. We passed a few dogs and she was interested, but not reactive - I think it was in a friendly way. She loved having a cool off in the stream and generally just seemed so happy to be out on a walk.

Re: Heather Mastiff x DofB TBAss RRemedies Centre
I enjoyed a first walk with Heather today. What a polite, friendly and lovely girl.
She was excited to greet me in her kennel, and almost dashed out as I carefully opened the door a crack. luckily I was able to grab her by the collar and take her back inside.
She was an exited squirmer to get a harness on and a stocky strong girl, but she did have some very noisy and excited neighbours around her and this was our first meeting. She was quiet and friendly just fidgety and keen to get on.
Heather was keen to get going and passed her neighbours without a second glance, ready to get out and explore.
We headed off immediately into the shady woods. Although she could have been strong or ploddy; unsteady she had a nice pace and wasn’t really pulling though seemed like she liked to lead the way while we were on our own.
Heather was good at taking direction and happy to take any path I chose, which was handy as the woods were fairly busy with other dog walkers and even some construction work and power tools, which didn’t appear to concern her at all.
Heather was soon walking with her tongue lolling and there was gently panting as we walked with I would think is expected from any dog of her breed type.
As we came upon a group of other dog walkers by the river I turned her around to head back in the direction we had come, not knowing if we could safely pass the group. She was hesitant for a moment as she could hear than; considering whether they might be having fun without her, but she soon responded to my redirection.
After a little more exploration on our own and finding a little pool of water for a little paddle we were passed by another couple of walkers and chose to follow them from the rear.
Heather was good at letting them pass, she was interested but gave them space. With no barking or pulling.
Once behind other dogs, Heather was stronger on her leads. She soon realised that I wanted to keep a little respectful distance and was willing to pause when a dog ahead stopped for a sniff.
We collectively took a route which involved a bridge with a couple of stiles. Heather fitted under the first but I was apprehensive about the second given that she is a short, squat, stocky build but she was keen to follow the other dogs and made the clamber over the stile look easy. Allowing us to carry on with our company.
As we made our return one of the other dogs developed a slight excitement cough and Heather kept looking back and pausing to check they were OK. How sweet and caring she seems
I look forward to our next walk Heather, that is if you’ve not managed to make someone fall in love with you and proudly take you home with them. X
