Took big Matt out today and he was a pleasure as usual. He walks and sniffs, such a leisurely boy!!! When he’s not sniffing as he goes, he likes to roll around in the grass, and stops for cuddles often. Sweet giant

Matthew is half way through his foster break with us so i thought it was time for an update. I picked him up from the kennels on Friday and he was so good he sat on the back seat looking out of the window the whole journey. He likes a snooze on the sofa but enjoys his walks as well. He has had a grumble at a couple of dogs but only if they come to close. On the whole he notices them ion the other side of the street and walks on by. He loves people though and is happy to meet anyone who is willing, below is him meeting my mother in law. He sleeps downstairs as we have a cat upstairs and has been good through the night. He wants to be wherever I am. When I cook dinner he is there but doesn't steal or beg for food. We went to a freedom field yesterday and he had a run or rather a gallop around. He is a big sniffer and his walks are at a gentle pace as he just loves to sniff everything. Today he went to the groomers to have a shampoo. I was a little nervous as had no idea how he would be.

The lady at Spa Time Pets in Horley was so lovely and very impressed with him. She said he was a true gentleman and although big seems very aware of his size and acts accordingly . He had a shampoo ans condition and his nails clipped. There was a lady and her son in the waiting room when I went to collect him and they were in awe of his size. I told them he was friendly so they gave him him lots of cuddles and strokes which he loved. Matthew is a big bundle of love and really just needs some walks, a sofa and love

Matthew's time with us has come to an end and we are missing him so much. We have loved having him with us over the last week. He is such good company, loves to be close to you having a cuddle on the sofa. He enjoys his walks and I walked him twice a day. He loves to meet people and of course gets a lot of attention becuase of his size but always surprises people with his gentleness. He is great with kids and loved meeting Lola, see the photo below He paid no attention to the fireworks on new years eve or the abundance of food that he could easily of stolen as both the table and the work top are at his head level. When I went out for an hour shopping he waited patiently for my return by sitting on the floor in the hallway even though my husband was in. When I went upstairs he would wait at the bottom of the stairs but the longer he was with us he settled more and didn't worry so much about being left downstairs. He wasn't allowed upstairs because of our cat. I can't comment on how he would be with cats as Elmo our cat stayed well out of sight for the whole of his stay. Matthew is a real character and can be vocal at times, I loved our chats. He also does the cutest head tilt when you talk to him or ask him if he wants to go for a walk. When on walks he only reacts to dogs that bark at him. He is very strong but I found that putting myself between him and the reactive dog and just talking to him usually calmed the situtation. We had a few trips out in the car and he is so good. He sits on the back seat looking out the back window for the whole journey. Matthew has clearly been loved and well trained and with the right home and patience will make the best family pet. To meet him is to love him and we really do

Totally had to see Matthew before he is hopefully homed tomorrow. When I got into his kennel he was wearing this very suave coat, thought he looked ever so handsome. I had a lovely greeting of him putting his full body weight against my legs so I could give him some scratchies, he’s such a sweet boy with such a soft and gentle heart. We had a great walk and did go into the paddock; he seemed very unsure about the snow but that didn’t stop him exploring it. We also went and had a look at the cats, you can tell he used to live with one because he doesn’t seem overly bothered by them, just a tiny bit nosey if anything at all.

Matthew had a special meeting today with Teddy (the chihuahua) and Phyllis and Neville ! Emma will explain all

It was lovely to meet Teddy (the chihuahua), Phyllis and Neville and introduce them to Matthew. Teddy and Matthew happily walked down the lane together and we let them off lead in the paddock and they paid little attention to each other, i am sure in time they will be best buds. Mattthew showed Phyllis and Neville what a gentle giant he is and has gone off to meet their cats and become part of their family.
