If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.
Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.
Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.
Pierre's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original referral information: Pierre's dog warden ask if we could save his life as an abused dog.

Well I have already fallen in love with this boy. Knowing what he’s gone through and yet he was so sweet when he arrived today. Incredibly friendly, soft and very good considering his confusion with life at the minute. I can’t wait to see him flourish and I’m sure he will be very loved at the kennels

Bless him - poor little thing. Honestly, sometimes the devilish actions of people go beyond belief. Onwards and upwards for this little man. He will indeed be surrounded by love at the kennels as the walkers will absolutely love him. I can't wait to meet him.

He is such a sweet, dinky little boy. When I went to say hello he came running to his pen door and gently took a lot of little pieces of chicken from you. Little soldier - love him!

Monday afternoon I collected a very weary Pierre from the vet so he could come stay with me for a couple of weeks to rest and recover from his procedures.
Understandably, he was very scared and sad
so I took it very slowly and softly doing my best to reassure him that he is now safe and loved. It took a while to coax him into the soft crate in my van and he did gently whimper for the 40 minute journey home but I don't think this is representative of how he would usually travel.
Once home, I left him to have a good sniff around and choose where he wanted to rest. I have a bed in the living room, a blanket in front of the sofa and another bed in the hallway. Pierre spent the afternoon going from one spot to another, not making eye contact and eventually choosing the hallway as his safe space.
When it came to bedtime, I moved one of his beds next to mine and left my bedroom door open so he could come and go as he wished. He chose to sleep the whole night in his bed in the hallway (which is outside my bedroom).
In the morning, he didn't move from his bed but seemed pleased to see me so I slowly and gently stroked his back. When I popped my coat on he got excited and eagerly ran down the stairs to the front door. We did a good walk around the neighbourhood with Pierre taking in all the sniffs. Back at the flat and he settled again in the hall.
Late morning Pierre presented me his bum for scratches (I felt very privileged)
and in the afternoon he came and stood facing me whilst I was sat on the floor and pushed his face into mine!
Wednesday he discovered the toy basket and took a shining to one of the squishy balls. He uses this to self soothe and regulate his emotions when he gets a bit overwhelmed/excited. As the week has gone on, he has shown his playful side; bringing the ball to me so that I throw it for him.
Obviously I oblige but not throwing very far as he's just been neutered.
Thursday morning he discovered he could get on my bed so we started our day with bum scratches and belly rubs! After our morning walk, I introduced Pierre to the sofa but this proved too much for him and he got a bit over excited and humpy. So, I popped him in his bed in the hall with his squidgy ball and he settled very quickly. Once calm again, he came and slept on the blanket in front of the sofa instead. I did reintroduce the sofa later in the afternoon and he happily slept at the other end (albeit with his back to me).
Thursday night he wanted to sleep on my bed with me and that was totally fine with me. He spent half the night there and then hopped off and finished the night back in his own bed outside my bedroom door.
By Friday I'd say he'd fully relaxed and trusts again which is amazing given everything this poor boy has been through.
Pierre is truly wonderful and will be an amazing addition to any household. He's relaxed, clean, playful and loving .... and that's after one week! I can't wait to see how he blossoms in his very own loving home ... which he soooo deserves!
