Gemma and I spent a few hours at the Rescue on Friday and Matthew was third on our list.
As a "big dog" fan, I had really been looking forward to meeting him and was not disappointed - wow, this boy is big... and absolutely stunning! It's hard to get it across on camera; seeing is believing!
He was a little wary of my hands reaching around and under his body to attach his harness (gently backing away from me when he felt the need) but a softly softly approach was all that was ultimately required. The same technique meant I also soon had his halti on with no fuss, despite not having fitted one myself before.
We headed into the village and he walked really beautifully: not fazed by the traffic (or the noise of it when crossing over the motorway bridge); waiting at junctions for the go-ahead to proceed; etc. He simply gently plods along at your side on totally slack leads, taking direction from you, however you provide it.
He likes a good sniff, but hey, that's what dogs do, and I'm certainly never going to stop them or rush them along.
We stopped off in the park for a photo shoot and on our return, headed to the paddock. He didn't show any interested in playing ball and was instead quite happily to have a look around and accept all the attention we have him before plopping down in the shade offered by the podium.
As I say, Matthew is simply stunning - in appearance, stature and temperament. A true gentle giant. He's clearly been very well brought-up and looked-after before coming to us.

Lovely photos of a beautiful gentle giant. I have started nipping round to Matthew's pen to say hello and to give him some treats and he is just so very lovely. He gives little whimpers in anticipation of the treats when he sees me and he takes them so gently. His future owner will absolutely adore him.

Big Matt is a lovely boy! He's calm in nature and enjoys a fuss around his ears. He wasn't interested in a long walk and was rather happy just plodding along, sniffing the grass.
