Toby was due for a home visit, he settled so well that he was able to stay overnight. What a well behaved little dog he is. Quite independent milling around and sitting in the garden, likes a stroke and cuddle (not OTT), I guess the only rules are - don’t interrupt him sleeping or sniffing, quite usual for terriers.
Someone has trained him really well, his recall is good, he ‘sits’, ‘paw’ and ‘down’ on command and will even ‘wait’ for his dinner. He won’t jump up on the sofa if you tell him not to, as my Dad did. He was interested in sniffing towards the neighbours dog, he barked a few times in response and other than that he’s not barked at all.
Last night he really settled on a comfy sofa chair, I went to bed around midnight and by 8am the next morning he was still there. Amazing for a first night.
We had a nice walk over the quiet part of Earlswood common yesterday, he seemed keen to follow two little Shih tzus but not so keen on the German Shepherd. Doesn’t like huskies much either. He just barks, which is quite manageable when he’s on a lead.
We also went for a little walk in the woods after his dinner. He was busy milling around in the garden yesterday, so seems a bit tired and wants to settle in comfort today. He’s back in the lounge snoozing on a big sofa chair.
If you are looking for a little dog who likes walks, is sweet and cuddly but not over you ok all the time, responds to instructions and loves the comfort of a home, Toby is definitely the one for you. If we weren’t out at work all day in the week, he could stay longer. He really needs a person to be with, a comfy sofa and the warmth of his own home.

Sweet, sweet Toby how lovely to see you warm, cozy and happy. I am glad you enjoyed yourself and showed what an amazing little dog you are. I would love you to find your forever home and person(s) to share your senior years with. I would adopt you without doubt but my dog and cats would object but hopefully someone reading about you will have a Toby shaped place in their heart for you.

Re: Toby Patterdale DoB 30.01.13 RRemedies Centre
We are out for the day on Sunday but wanted to try to fit Toby in for an overnight visit after I walked at the rescue centre on Friday. He’s really no trouble at all and has fitted in really well. He’s a bit bouncy in the car, he barked at a passing, big, fluffy dog but settled after 10 mins and lay down on the seat. Both teens were here Friday and Toby seemed to enjoy the general hubbub of family life, he took a particular shine to my son and hopped onto his lap for a cuddle. Saturday morning he greeted my son the same way, everyone went out and it was just me and Toby. His face looked as if ‘where’s everyone gone?’ We met my Dad on his morning walk on a 2 mile trip around the block. Toby is happy with either a grassy walk, or a pavement walk. I tend to keep away from other dogs. Some he is ok with and others he’s not. Big fluffy dogs are not his favourite. Wherever he goes he sniffs, A LOT! We walked to my Aunts to drop her paper to her and she said if she wasn’t 82 she’d have him in a heartbeat.
He’s been very happy with all visitors so far and looks a little sad when people go. Toby loved having cuddles from my Mum (will attach video).
He nibbles his food throughout the day and does like a little treat in his bowl or remaining milk froth from coffees!
Barking at home is minimal, which is surprising as there are people and dogs walking in the woods behind our house. He just sniffs the air and listens. He did bark at my partner strumming outside the front window with a big black coat and shades on. He also barked when a neighbour approached us in the car and also at a really loud motorbike going past as we drove.
He slept a whole 8hours again. It took quite a lot of persuading to get him off the sofa chair to go out for a wee at 11pm, sausages solved that.
Gorgeous Toby, he’s a charming little chap. Not needy one iota. Loves a stroke, pat or back scratchy. He’s an older chap but still very sprightly and pretty sociable. He soooo needs a home to call his own.

This is such a good post Nicky, showing Toby to be the easy, affectionate dog he can be - yes, I realise it is good to have patterdale experience and his future adopter should maybe have this but you have shown that he can settle into a fairly busy household, with visitors and extended family, and he seems to thrive on it. The pics are brilliant too.
