Murph's Story: Murph has been owned by person who is alcohol dependent and now needs to have have a routine and supportive measures in his life to gain a sense of security. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Murph will be neutered, chipped, and undergo vaccinations. Murph came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and we will only contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Murph's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: 9.6.24: Murph is an entire male Patterdale type who we know has lived with another dog but he is said to not be dog friendly. Murph's owner is alcohol dependent and goes off on benders so he is likely used to being left for long periods and he is food possessive (not surprising as probably didn't get regular meals). Murph has been 1st vaccinated and needs out ASAP

Murph came into RescueRemedies on the 17th June 24

Murph and I enjoyed two walks last week. He had only just come in when I took him out first time and he was slightly unsettled but the walk soon sorted him out. He has loads of energy and just loves being outside. He has so much energy he snatches at grass instead of stopping to eat it! I did not notice any dog reactivity but it is early days and that could well change.
He is a friendly, lovely little dog and I am so looking forward to walking him again. wheyhey.gif

I took Murph out for a walk accompanied by Karen and Jupiter, Murph was happy to follow Jupiter, he did not show any interest in any dogs we passed. Murph walks at good pace, as Helen mentioned he snatches grass instead of stopping, I am sure in time he will settle and slow down to enjoy sniffs. He takes treats very gently and has the most beautiful soft fur. Beautiful boy bighug.gif

The Wonderful Murphy

First walk...full on smacker on the chops when first entered pen. What can I say but a joyful, ball of Patterdale energy and love. Really accepting of me as never met before, another smacker when in paddock. Busy busy. For a home with a secure garden, awareness of their energy and fun nature, and time to do some heel work he would be perfect. Oh and top tip....white T shirts not a good Idea but the muddy paw print is a wonderful touch ❤️😊

Lizzie has summed up Murph really well. He is a complete bundle of joy - full of energy and enthusiasm for life. It is a joy to watch him in the paddock as he runs and runs and runs. Murph and I have had several walks through the woods - he does tend to pull but that is all part of his amazing energy. He would calm down I am sure with the right owner who can spend time with him as Murph clearly did not get much positive interaction from his previous owner.
He does not seem to be dog reactive although it is early days to assess this properly and of course dogs change after they have been in rescue care a while.
You don't need an introduction to Murph - he loves everyone - especially if you give him treats and take him for walks. Hopefully this bundle of joy won't be in the rescue too long. Kiss of love.gif

We have enjoyed Murph's delightful company at RR for about 6 weeks now and he just goes from strength to strength. He is delightful.

It is a real pleasure to see Murph in one of the paddocks in the morning as he just runs and runs and really makes the most of his outdoors time. Absolute poppet!

Later on in the day twice weekly I have taken him out for walks in the woods. He loves to sniff but also walks fast and can pull a bit. He is a really energetic little dog and needs to walk off some of his energy so we tend to go for a longer walk and it includes a splash in the river which predictably Murph loves.

He is super friendly; loves everyone; wants to say hello to everyone and greet them as if they were his best friend. His forum notes say he is dog reactive but I have not seen this.

Great little dog in every way who should be bouncing energetically into his own home I would think.

Murph is a sweet, little bundle of energy. He was a bit tricky to harness at first, as he wanted to play with it and then decided to take it off to his bed! 0002.gif]

I regained his attention with a tasty treat and once said harness was over his head, he stood calmly and let me finish getting him ready.

We set off to the woods at pace and came across Mika and Dylly. We tagged along with them a while. Murph showed zero reaction to the other dogs, which was great to see.

Murph has a determined, excited energy when he's walking - as if he may miss his train if he doesn't hurry!

After a while, therefore, we left the other dogs to gently plod along whilst Murph and I headed down to the river.

Well, Murph loved the river and we did several lengths before he decided he'd had enough (see video).

Back in his kennel, Murph calmly waited for me to remove his walking equipment. We had a little stroke and a fuss and said goodbye.

I think Murph is a delightful little character and I'm enjoying walking him.

Murph is a very energetic busy boy. He was so steam train keen to walk that I made sure we had a good long one, with lots of stops for water and refueling.

After we had been walking for a fair while, we followed a path that put us behind another small dog out walking with his owners, we also passed a few homes with dogs inside their gates most excited about these passers by. Murph was very quiet about passing these dogs even while being barked at. He seemed very much intent on catching up with the dog in front of us or perhaps just enjoying his walk.

Given it was a warm summer day and we had kept mostly to the shady woods and keenly stopped for regular drinks; we diverted towards the river as I suspected Murph would like a dip. Murph does clearly enjoy a brief wade in the river and shake off after.

Murph is responsive to his name although it does not seem easy to distract him from his walk. He takes treats very gently.

I did get the impression that Murph is the kind of bundle of energy who would enjoy family life; especially if that family has a boy (or perhaps another dog) with as much energy as Murph. Although, I’m yet to test the theory I suspect Murph would love ball games and racing around a garden with kids.

Thanks for an energising walk Murph, I’ll certainly be looking for another opportunity to take this happy chap out again.

Murph is utterly cute and an amusing, spritely, lovely little soul.

I was honoured to escort Murph to the Terrier Derby at Epsom Racecourse yesterday. I thought I'd take him to the paddock to burn some energy off before we left, as I know he has a lot of it!

He seemed determined to get himself as dirty as possible: rolling around, crawling about and having a right old good time of it! I had to take him for a quick shower as I wanted him to look his best when meeting and greeting his public at the terrier event. He wasn't too keen on it but obliged nonetheless.

He leapt enthusiastically into my car and greatly enjoyed the view as we drove along. I gave him a little brush which he liked and we went to find the RR stall. He made friends with all the event ushers on the way, who commented on his cuteness and eagerness.

The event was pretty crowded. I'm pleased to report that Murph had absolutely no problem with the crowds of people nor the many dogs - either big or small dogs. He didn't react at all and made no sound. He even ignored it completely when a dog barked in his face - completely unwarranted, I should add - poor Murph!

He was happy to say 'hello' to people and sat obediently to accept treats from those who wished to give him one. He didn't seem to have a great sense of spatial awareness. He often walked right into people or dogs - he just wasn't bothered! In his defence though, it was very busy. And Murph isn't great at staying still!

I took Murph on a few walks around the area. He decided he wanted to join the queue for the hot dog stand but I'm afraid when it got to his turn, I didn't buy him one. I'm a terrible person.

After the terrier racing had finished, Murph and I did some parading up and down the dog race track; showing himself off to the punters and having a good old jog up and down. I think we should have entered him into the races - he probably would have loved it.

I entered him into the fun dog show in the 'best rescue' section. The judge said he had lovely, white teeth but gave the prize to a nice, but clearly pampered, ex-rescue dog. I think Murph was robbed. He definitely proved himself to be the best rescue that day!

Murph was a wonderful ambassador to Rescue Remedies with his friendly, cute, energetic and quiet demeanour. I hope someone will appreciate his wonderful qualities and give him the home he so deserves.
